Abstract: Concrete comprises organic fibres dispersed in a hardened cement matrix. Concrete comprising organic fibres dispersed in a hardened cement matrix is obtained by mixing with water composition comprising fibres and: (a) cement; (b) granular components with maximum size, D, of no more than 2 mm, preferably no more than 1 mm; (c) fine components from ash with size no greater than 20 microns preferably no greater than 1 microns; and (d) at least one dispersing agent; the composition meeting the following conditions: (e) wt. % water with respect to total weight of (a) and (c) = 8-25; (f) organic fibres have individual length, l , of at least 2 mm and ratio l\/ phi ( phi = diameter) at least = 20; (g) ratio, R, of mean length of fibres to D at least = 5; and (h) quantity of fibres is such that their volume represents no more than 8% total volume of concrete. An independent claim is also included for a cement matrix for making the concrete.

Abstract: L'invention concerne un béton comportant des fibres organiques dispersées dans la matrice cimentaire. En combinant une matrice cimentaire de caractéristiques déterminées et des fibres organiques également de caractéristiques déterminées, notamment la grosseur des particules, la longueur et le diamètre des fibres, par un effet de synergie entre la matrice et les fibres organiques, on améliore le comportement du béton à la fois vis-à-vis de l'apparition de microfissures et de la propagation de macrofissures. La figure est un graphique obtenu par des essais de flexion quatre points respectivement pour des bétons de fibres métalliques et des bétons de fibres organiques.
