    Abstract: A length (c) of a melamine foamed block (12) to be accommodated in an ink tank housing (11) as measured in the longitudinal direction is dimensioned to be larger than a length (C) of the ink tank housing (11) as measured in the longitudinal direction. Thus, while the foamed block (12) is accommodated in the ink tank housing (11), it is compressed in the direction orienting toward an ink feeding port (13) from which ink is fed to a printing head (14), i.e., in the ink feeding direction. Consequently, the ink retaining force induced by the capillary force is not intensified in the compressing direction of the melamine foamed block (12), resulting in an ink feeding capability of the printing head (14) being improved. On the contrary, the ink retaining force effective at a right angle relative to the compressing direction of the melamine foamed block (12) is intensified.

    Abstract: An ink supply mechanism which supplies ink from an ink container (19) for storing ink to an ink discharging unit (17) which discharges ink comprises a first filter (70) member provided in an ink outlet section of the ink container; an ink supply passage (52) which conductively connects an ink jet recording unit and the ink container (19) for supplying ink from the ink container reservoir portion to the ink jet recording unit; and a second filter member (63) provided in the ink supply passage between the ink discharging ports and the first filter member (70). The second filter member (63) is provided with holes which create the capillary force greater than the negative pressure in the ink container. With the above structure, it is possible to provide an ink jet recording apparatus capable of making the recovery amount compatible between a usual recording means and a recording means of a high-speed type, making a recording means of a high-speed type usable in a usual recording apparatus, and improving the ink usage efficiency in the recovery process.

    Abstract: An ink jet recording apparatus includes an orifice (5) for ejecting ink (6); a heater (4) for generating thermal energy to produce a bubble (8) to eject the ink; an ink passage (1) for supplying ink to the orifice (5), the ink passage being provided with the heater (4); an ink container (7) for containing ink to be supplied to the ink passage (1), the ink container retaining the ink, using capillary force; wherein the following is satisfied: VOH > V'Me + Vd where VOH is a volume of the ink passage (1) from the orifice (5) to an edge of the heater adjacent the orifice; V'Me is a volume of a meniscus retraction at an initial ink ejection; and Vd is a volume of ejected ink.
