Abstract:
This application is directed to methods of assessing polymer deposition on dental surfaces using near infrared spectroscopy, providing a rapid and efficient method to screen for and identify optimal polymers for use in oral care formulations, (i) near infra red (IR) absorption of a dental substrate is measured in the absence of a polymer under test, and subsequently of the test sample comprising the dental substrate contacted with the test polymer. After washing or rinsing the test sample near IR of it is determined again (iii). The IR absorption of the test polymer itself is also measured (ii). Through the comparison of the three measurements (i), (ii), and (iii) the degree of deposition and retention of the test polymer on the test sample is determined.
Abstract:
A container comprising a body portion and a neck portion, the neck portion having a pump dispenser thereon, the pump dispenser comprising a pump mechanism, a dip tube on one end of the pump mechanism, a pump outlet on another end of the pump mechanism, the dip tube extending from the pump mechanism into the body portion, the body portion containing a liquid, and a motion element, the motion element being captive within the dip tube and adapted to be movable within the dip tube under the action of liquid flow through the dip tube, and at least a portion of the body portion being transparent, a decorative effect resulting from the motion of the motion element being visible from an exterior of the container. Also disclosed is a method of providing an enhanced display by a dispensing container during dispensing of a liquid from the container.
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods of making films having active ingredients. A film that is substantially free of active ingredient is introduced into a medium comprising an active ingredient. At least a portion of the active ingredient is transferred from the medium to the film. The films can be used in a variety of applications, including oral care, personal care, cleansing and/or home care compositions.
Abstract:
An oral care implement includes a head and a plurality of cleaning elements for enhanced cleaning of the teeth and soft tissue of the oral cavity. One tooth cleaning element has a plurality of bristles adapted to clean teeth. Another cleaning element is connected to the head and has structure defining a channel. The channel is configured to direct fluid in contact with the head toward an edge of the head when the implement is moved. The head also defines a reservoir that is configured to receive a dentifrice therein.

A container comprising a body portion and a neck portion, the neck portion having a pump dispenser thereon, the pump dispenser comprising a pump mechanism, a dip tube on one end of the pump mechanism, a pump outlet on another end of the pump mechanism, the dip tube extending downwardly from the pump mechanism into the body portion, the body portion containing a first liquid, the dip tube having a central bore along which the first liquid is pumped from the body portion when the pump mechanism is actuated, and a reservoir containing a second liquid, the reservoir communicating with the dip tube and adapted to introduce the second liquid into the first liquid within the pump mechanism or dip tube under the action of first liquid flowing through the dip tube.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an oral composition and method for alleviati the symptoms associated with xerostomia using encapsulated cation-releasing compounds formulated either intimately together or in separate compartments in a composition containing cation-sensitive mucoadhesive polymers.
Abstract:
An oral carrier strip for the delivery of an oral care composition to the oral cavity of a human or animal subject is provided. The strip includes a first portion adapted to contact a front facing side of a plurality of teeth. A second portion is provided to be folded around the teeth so as to contact a back facing side of the teeth. The first portion has a first perimeter patterned to substantially match a shape of an outer gingival tissue, and the second portion has a second perimeter opposite the first perimeter and patterned to match a shape of an inner gingival tissue. The second perimeter defines an aperture disposed in the second portion having a rounded notch positioned in a center portion of the strip, configured to prevent the strip from tearing when folded around the teeth.
