Abstract: A method is described herein of making a textured glass article, the method includes: etching an initial primary surface of a glass substrate having a thickness with a hydrofluoric acid-free etchant having a pH of about 3 or less; and removing the etchant from the glass substrate, such that the etching is conducted from above ambient temperature to about 100° C. to form a textured region that is defined by a primary surface of the substrate and comprises a sparkle of 2% or less, and the etching comprises a plurality of batch cycles.

Abstract: A substrate for a display article includes: a primary surface; a textured region on at least a portion of the primary surface, the textured region comprising surface features that reflect a random distribution, each of the surface features comprising a perimeter that is parallel to a base-plane extending through a thickness of the substrate below the textured region, wherein the perimeter is elliptical. The textured region can further include (i) one or more higher surfaces residing at a higher mean elevation from the base-plane and (ii) one or more lower surfaces residing at a lower mean elevation from the base-plane that is closer to the base-plane than the higher mean elevation. The higher mean elevation can differ from the lower mean elevation by a distance within a range of 0.05 μm to 0.70 μm.

Abstract: A glass-ceramic article is provided that includes a surface passivation layer. The passivation layer is an oxide layer and has a thickness of greater than or equal to 20 nm to less than or equal to 200 nm and a RMS surface roughness of less than or equal to 3 nm. The surface passivation layer may be formed with a liquid phase deposition process. The glass-ceramic article may include an easy to clean layer disposed on the surface passivation layer, and the glass-ceramic article may be chemically strengthened. The glass-ceramic article may be used in a consumer electronic product.

Abstract: A flame deposition method is disclosed for forming hydrophobic nanotextured surfaces with improved adhesion and durability for long-term use. The method according to present disclosure can produce nanotextured surfaces with contact angles greater than 140°. Coatings thus prepared exhibit enhanced durability, maintaining water contact angles of greater than 120° after approximately 200,000 abrasion cycles using a cloth wipe resistance test.

The article also comprises an adhesion agent positioned between the glass substrate and the black matrix segments. The adhesion agent provides at least one of: a total surface energy of 65 mN/m or less and at least a 30% reduction in surface polarity compared to a control untreated glass surface as determined by H2O and diiodomethane contact angle and application of the Wu model.

Abstract: Methods of forming a glass article are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of forming a glass article includes translating a pulsed laser beam on a glass substrate sheet to form a laser damage region between a first surface and a second surface of the glass substrate sheet. The method further includes applying an etchant solution to the glass substrate sheet to remove a portion of the glass substrate sheet about the laser damage region. The method may further include strengthening the glass substrate sheet by an ion-exchange strengthening process, and coating the glass substrate sheet with an acid-resistant coating. Also disclosed are methods where the laser damage region has an initial geometry that changes to a desired geometry following the reforming of the glass substrate sheet such that the initial geometry of the laser damage region compensates for the bending of the glass substrate sheet.

Methods of forming a foldable apparatus can comprise contacting an existing first major surface of a foldable substrate with a solution comprising fluorosilicic acid.
