    Abstract: The invention relates to a cooling system and operating method therefor with a direct expansion cooling circuit for an ammonia refrigerant. A compressor 12 is provided to compress ammonia vapor 11. A condenser is provided to condense the ammonia vapor to obtain liquid ammonia 20. An evaporator 32 is provided to evaporate the liquid ammonia. A superheat vapor quality sensor 40 is arranged at a conduit 34 between at least a portion of the evaporator 32 and the compressor 12. The superheat vapor quality sensor 40 comprises a heating element 48 and a temperature sensing element 52. The superheat vapor quality sensor 40 is disposed to deliver a sensor signal S indicative of a superheat vapor quality X of refrigerant flowing through the conduit 34 from an output of the temperature sensing element 52.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a sensor arrangement for providing a sensor signal S indicative of a vapor quality X of a medium flowing within a conduit 38a. A sensor comprising a heating element and a temperature sensing element is arranged in thermal contact with a wall of the conduit 34. Processing means are disposed to deliver a sensor signal S based on an output of the temperature sensing element 52.
    The invention further relates to a cooling system 10 including at least one evaporator 32 for evaporating an ammonia refrigerant, at least one compressor 12 arranged to compress the evaporated refrigerant, and at least one condenser 18 for condensing the compressed refrigerant, and at least one evaporator pump 30 for pumping the condensed refrigerant to the evaporator 32.     Abstract: An expansion valve (2) for a vapour compression system (1) and a vapour compression system (1) are disclosed. The expansion valve (1) comprises a valve element (9), a valve seat (13) as well as a biasing member (12). The valve element (9) and the valve seat (13) are arranged in a first fluid passage (6) of the expansion valve (2). The expansion valve (2) further comprises a shape memory alloy actuator (17) that exerts a force on the valve element towards an open valve position when the shape memory alloy actuator is heated by an electric current. The object of the invention is to provide an expansion valve for a vapour compression system of the above type that maybe controlled externally but is also self-regulating. To this end the shape memory alloy actuator (17) is arranged in a second fluid passage (7) of the expansion valve (2), wherein the shape memory alloy actuator (17) is arranged to be in thermal contact with the fluid in the second fluid passage (7), such that the shape memory alloy actuator also actuates the valve element (9) towards a closed valve position when the shape memory actuator (17) is cooled by the fluid in the second fluid passage (7).
