Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve ageing stability, in a catalyst having an active component on a silicon dioxide-containing catalyst carrier for catalytic reaction under a hydrothermal condition, by modifying the catalyst carrier by impregnating the same with a soluble compd. of at least one element among the group IVB elements. SOLUTION: In a catalyst having an active component on a silicon dioxide- containing catalyst carrier for catalytic reaction under a hydrothermal condition and suitably used in the hydration of olefin to alcohol in the presence of phosphoric acid being the active component, the catalyst carrier is modified by the impregnation with a soluble compd. of at least one element among the group IVB elements. As silicon dioxide, natural or synthetic one can be used and, as natural silicone dioxide, for example, bentonite can be designated and, as synthetic silicon dioxide, a silica gel obtained by a wet chemical method is designated. By this constitution, improved ageing stability is obtained at a time of use under a hydrothermal condition.
