    Abstract: An ink composition includes colorant, co-solvent system, acid (e.g., oleic, linoleic, undecanoic, dodecanoic, and/or tridecanoic acids), lithium, polymer binder, and water. The co-solvent system is selected from i) from ~9 to ~25 wt% of sulfolane with no other co-solvent, ii) hydroxylated co-solvent, from ~4 to ~16 wt% of sulfolane, and at least 8 wt% of another non-hydroxylated co-solvent; iii) hydroxylated co-solvent, from ~7 to ~16 wt% of sulfolane, and at least 3 wt% of the other non-hydroxylated co-solvent; and iv) a hydroxylated co-solvent and from ~9 wt% to ~16 wt% of sulfolane. When i) or ii) or iv) is used, at least 0.15 wt% acid and at least 200 ppm lithium are included; or when iii) is used, at least 0.25 wt% acid and at least 100 ppm lithium are included; or when iii) is used, at least 0.15 wt% acid and at least 150 ppm lithium are included.

    Abstract: An ink-jet ink is disclosed which comprises polymer-dispersed pigment particles in a liquid vehicle, wherein the polymer has an acid number of at least about 175 and comprises polymer molecules having anionic groups and hydrogen bond-forming groups. The anionic groups and the hydrogen bond-forming groups are configured on each of the polymer molecules to permit association of the anionic groups with cationic groups on a print medium, and to also permit the hydrogen bond-forming groups on neighboring polymer molecules to interact pair wise with each other, as the liquid vehicle dries and/or is absorbed into the medium.

    Abstract: A composite color includes a first colored ink and a second colored ink. The first colored ink exhibits a color that is different from that exhibited by the second colored ink. The first colored ink includes pigment particles formulated at a basic pH so that a surface of each of the pigment particles carries a net negative charge; and the second colored ink includes pigment particles formulated at an acidic pH so that a surface of each of the pigment particles carries a net positive charge. The composite color exhibits enhanced color richness when printed on a substrate.

    Abstract: Compositions and methods for forming color images on a substrate capable of development at desired wavelengths or energy levels are disclosed and described. The color forming composition can include a carrier system and a latent pigment with a pendent group, wherein the latent pigment is colorless or pale in color while the pendent group is attached, and wherein the latent pigment is convertible to a colored pigment upon removal of the pendent group. Alternatively, the latent pigment can have multiple states of conjugation where the latent pigment is colorless or pale in a first conjugation state, and colored in a second conjugation state. The color forming compositions are useful in forming images on a wide variety of substrates, such as optical disks.

    Abstract: An ink composition includes a colorant, a co-solvent, a surfactant system, and water. The surfactant system consists of an acid, lithium, and a non-ionic surfactant. The acid is selected from the group consisting of oleic acid, linoleic acid, undecanoic acid, dodecanoic acid, tridecanoic acid, and combinations thereof. The non-ionic surfactant includes a hydrophilic head group to interact with the lithium and a hydrophobic tail to not sterically hinder formation of an anti-evaporative layer to be formed by the surfactant system. The non-ionic surfactant also excludes any ethyleneoxy groups.
