    Abstract: The invention provides novel oligomers and/or polymers containing carboxylic and hydroxylic groups - the latter groups being partially lactonized, if desired - and a predominant proportion of C-C bonds in their principal chain. The oligomers and/or polymers are produced by hydrolyzing halogenated copolymers which have substantially between 5 and 60 weight % of halogen therein and a principal chain based on structural units, in any desirable sequential arrangement, of the following general formulae I and II or I and III in which X, Y and Z stand for a hydrogen and/or halogen atom with the proviso that at least one of the X, Y and Z substituents stands for a halogen atom, R stands for a carboxyhalide radical, a carboxylic group, ester group, nitrile group or anhydride group, and the mole fraction m stands for a number greater than zero and smaller than 1.

    Abstract: This invention is directed to a process for the preparation of vinyl chloride homopolymers, copolymers thereof with other monomers or graft copolymers containing at least 50% by weight of vinyl chloride units. The monomer or monomer mixture is polymerized in aqueous dispersion in the presence of a radical-forming catalyst in a reactor. The inner walls of the reactor and other portions thereof where polymer deposits may form are coated with a coating containing a compound of the formula I (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen, a hydrocarbon radical of aliphatic character having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, an acyl having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms, R2 is R1 or R2 and R1 together are alkylidene or aralkylidene, R3 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical of aliphatic character having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; or at least one of the radicals, R1, R2 or R3 being hydrogen, R4 is R3, furthermore alkoxy having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, hydroxyl, halogen, amino, (di)alkylamino having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, carboxyl, sulfoxyl (=SO3H); R5 is R4; or R4 and R5 together are an aromatic ring.

    Abstract: 1410641 Light sensitized oxymethylene polymer composition HOECHST AG 14 Sept 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 42709/72 Heading C3P A composition comprises (a) an oxymethylene polymer, (b) a heat stabilizer and (c) a light sensitizer which is anthrone. Oxidation stabilizers, e.g. bisphenols, may also be present. The compositions are degradable in ultra-violet light and may thus be useful for bags, sheets and sacks. They may be prepared by homogenizing the components in granular or powder form at 150‹ to 250‹ C. In examples, polyformaldehyde and trioxan-ethylene oxide, trioxan-dioxolan and trioxan-ethylene oxide-butanedioldiglycidyl ether copolymers are stabilized with calcium ricinoleate or dicyanodiamide and sensitized with anthrone or (for comparison) with benzophenone or fluorenone.

    Abstract: 1,211,641. Trioxan copolymerization. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 1 Jan., 1968 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 49/68. Heading C3P. Trioxan is copolymerized with a cyclic ether and/or cyclic acetal in the presence of a cationic initiator at a temperature from the melting- point (62‹ C.) to the boiling-point (115‹ C.) of trioxan in a container made of an oxymethylene polymer, suitably having a crystallite melting-point of 120‹ C. to 180‹ C., with subsequent working up of the polymer together with the container. The polymerization is conducted in the melt, with the container being formed from a film or sheet e.g. a bag or pipe. In the examples, trioxan and ethylene oxide are copolymerized in the presence of p-nitrophenyl diazonium fluoroborate or BF 3 .(C 4 H 9 ) 2 O and in a bag made from a copolymer of trioxan and ethylene oxide, or a terpolymer of these monomers with either butane diol diglycidyl ether or hexane triol formal, the resulting polymers being purified by treating with benzyl alcohol and triethanolamine, separating by precipitation and then boiling with methanol.
