Abstract: Emulsifier-containing plastics dispersions which serve as a binder for dispersion paints, should contain polymers forming a film at room temperature and having a high wet adhesion. Suitable polymers are prepared by polymerization of olefinically unsaturated monomers initiated by free radical-forming agents, especially in the presence of an emulsifier. As emulsifier there is used a salt of an acyl ester of the hydroxymethane-phosphonic acid. The emulsifier may remain in the dispersion ready-for-use without involving disadvantages for the wet adhesion.

Cellular epoxide resins are made by hardening an epoxide resin that contains on average more than one epoxido group per molecule, with a mixture of phosphorous acid with a Lewis acid or Lewis acid complex and in the presence of a volatile liquid as expanding agent. The epoxide resin may be the reaction product of epichlorohydrin with 2,2-diphenylol propane and may be used in solution in the expanding agent, e.g. halohydrocarbon or hydrocarbon, in a copolymerizable reactive diluent, e.g. a lactone or cyclic ether, or in an inert solvent. The Lewis acid may be boron trifluoride, tin tetrachloride, phosphorus pentafluoride or a complex thereof with an alcohol, phenol, acid, ether, ester, ketone, amine, nitrile or amide.
