    Abstract: The prodn. of copolymeric boro-silazanes (II) comprises reacting a mixt. of tris-silyl-borane(s) of formula B-(CH2H4-SiCl2X)3 (I) and chlorosilane(s) of formula R1SiCl3 or R2R3SiCl2 with ammonia; -C2H4- = -CH2-CH3- or -CHMe-; X = Cl or 1-4C aliphatic residue; and R1-R3 = H or 1-4C aliphatic residue. Also new are boro-silazane copolymers of formula (II), obtd. by the above prodn. R = 1-4C aliphatic residue; and a + b + c + d = 1. The amt. of ammonia used is pref. sufficient to saturate all the Si-Cl gps. and bind the obtd. HCl as NH4Cl, and cpd. (I) and the chlorosilane are reacted as a soln. in organic solvent. The reactants are mixed at -10 to +10 deg. C and the mixt. is heated to 10-100 deg. C. (I) are prepd., e.g. by reaction of corresp. vinyl silanes of formula CH2=CH-SiCl2X with BH3-THF as described in J. Organomet. Chem. 34 (1972) C0 and 135 (1977) 249, and in Zhur. Obshchei. Khim. 30 (1960) 3615. Pref. solvents are, e.g. cyclohexane, toluene, THF etc. USE/ADVANTAGE - (II) are new B-contg. polyislazanes, useful for the prodn. of B- and Si-contg. ceramics with improved adhesion, hardness and surface quality, which are useful for coating steel etc., esp. for the surface coating of machine components which are mechanically and chemically stressed. (II) may also be shaped before pyrolysis, e.g. to form ceramic fibres which are useful for reinforcement of Al (alloys) and ceramic components. The prodn. of ceramic materials comprises pyrolysis of (II) at 500-2000 deg. C under nitrogen or argon (for materials contg. Si, B, C and N) or in an ammonia-contg. atmos. (for materials contg. Si, B and N). Also new are ceramic materials as above, produced by the prodn.

    Abstract: The invention relates to novel silazane polymers containing SiCl groups, to their preparation, to their conversion into silicon nitride-containing ceramic material, and to this material itself. In order to prepare the silazane polymers containing SiCl groups, alpha , omega -chlorosilazanes of the formula I (I) in which m has a value of from 1 to 12 and -(Si) is a silyl radical of the formula -SiHR1Cl, -SiR2R3Cl, -SiR4Cl2, -SiR5Cl-CH2CH2-SiR5Cl2 or -SiCl2-CH2CH2-SiR6Cl2, and R is C1-C6-alkyl or C2-C6-alkenyl and, independently of one another, R1-R6 are H, C1-C6-alkyl or C2-C6-alkenyl, to a temperature of from 100 DEG C. to 400 DEG C. The silazane polymers according to the invention containing in SiCl groups can be reacted with ammonia to give polysilazanes, which can themselves be pyrolyzed to give silicon nitride-containing ceramic materials.

    Abstract: The chlorine-containing silazane polymers are prepared by reacting oligosilazanes of the formula (I) in which at least one of the indices a and b and at least one of the indices c and d is not 0, and n is from about 2 to about 12, with at least one of the chlorosilanes Cl2R Si-CH2CH2-SiR Cl2, Cl3Si-CH2CH2-SiR Cl2, R SiCl3 or R SiHCl2 at from 30 DEG C to 300 DEG C, where, independently of one another, R , R and R are H, C1-C6-alkyl or C2-C6-alkenyl, and R , R , R , R , R and R are C1-C6-alkyl or C2-C6-alkenyl. The polysubstituted, chlorine-containing silazane polymers according to the invention can be reacted with ammonia to give polysilazanes, which can themselves be pyrolysed to give silicon nitride-containing ceramic materials.

    Abstract: The invention relates to novel chlorine-containing silazane polymers, to their preparation, their further processing to ceramic material containing silicon nitride, and this material itself. In order to prepare the chlorine-containing silazane polymers, oligosilazanes of the formula (I) in which a>0, b>/=0 and n is about 2 to about 12, are reacted with at least one of the chlorosilanes Cl2R4Si-CH2-CH2-SiR4Cl2, Cl3Si-CH2-CH2-Sir5Cl2, R6SiCl3 or R7SiHCl2 at 30 DEG C. to 300 DEG C., where, independently of one another, R1 and R2=H, C1-C6-alkyl or C2-C6-alkenyl, R3, R4, R5, R6 and R7=C1-C6-alkyl or C2-C6-alkenyl and where if b=0 the reaction with R7SiHCl2, if R7=C1-C6-alkyl and none of the other chlorosilanes is present, is to be excluded. The chlorine-containing silazane polymers according to the invention can be converted by reaction with ammonia into polysilazanes, which in their turn can be pyrolyzed to form ceramic materials containing silicon nitride.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of Si,Si'-diorganyl-N-alkyl-tetrachloro-disilazanes of the formula RSiCl2-NR'-SiCl2R, in which R is C1-C4-alkyl, vinyl or phenyl and R' is C1-C4-alkyl, and to these compounds themselves, with the exception of those where R=R'=CH3. To prepare the compounds mentioned, organyltrichlorosilanes RSiCl3 and monoalkylamines R'NH2 are reacted with one another in an aprotic solvent at -10 DEG C. to +70 DEG C., the molar ratio of RSiCl3:R'NH2 being at least 0.3:1.
