Abstract:
The invention relates to a polyethylene molding composition which has a multimodal molar mass distribution and is particularly suitable for producing external sheathing of electric or information transmission cables. The molding composition has a density at a temperature of 23° C. in the range from 0.94 to 0.95 g/cm3 and an MFI190/5 in the range from 1.2 to 2.1 dg/min. It comprises from 45 to 55% by weight of a low molecular weight ethylene homopolymer A, from 30 to 40% by weight of a high molecular weight copolymer B of ethylene and another olefin having from 4 to 8 carbon atoms and from 10 to 20% by weight of an ultra high molecular weight ethylene copolymer C. The invention also relates to an electric or information transmission cable having an external sheath of the polyethylene molding composition which has a thickness in the range from 0.2 to 3 cm.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst for the polymerization of olefins, which comprises: a) preparation of a finely divided silica xerogel, b) loading of the xerogel with chromium from a solution of chromium trioxide or a chromium compound which is converted into chromium trioxide under the conditions of step c), and c) activation of the resulting product at from 400 to 1100° C. in a water-free gas stream comprising oxygen in a concentration of above 10% by volume, wherein a fluoride doping with a fluorinating agent is carried out in step b) or in step c). Furthermore, the invention relates to a catalyst for the polymerization of olefins which is obtainable by the process of the invention and to a process for the polymerization of olefins in which an olefin or an olefin mixture is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst according to the invention.
Abstract:
An electric cable contains a cable insulation having high resistance to the formation or growth of water trees and having high aging resistance and good processibility and consisting of an ethylene polymer and from 0.5 to 40% by weight of an ethylene copolymer ionomer which contains, in addition to predominant amounts of ethylene, a C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenecarboxylic acid or a C.sub.4 -C.sub.6 -alkenedicarboxylic acid or -dicarboxylic anhydride as copolymerized units, some of the carboxyl groups or carboxylic anhydride groups having been converted into ammonium salts of tertiary amines.
Abstract:
A novel adhesive composition suitable for composing multilayered coatings onto large, industrial equipment such as pipeline tubes is devised. The composition is a blend based on a polyethylene which determines the blend's favorable properties, which polyethylene itself can be used further in coating cables and for producing moldings, especially rotomoulded articles.
Abstract:
A molding composition is suitable for the production of pipes having improved resistance to thermooxidative degradation when these pipes are in long-term contact with liquids comprising disinfectants having an oxidizing effect. Such molding composition comprises, in addition to thermoplastic polyolefins, a polyoxy compound and/or a polyhydroxy compound as additive in an amount of from 0.01 to 1.0% by weight. In addition, the molding composition can further comprise an unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon in an amount of up to 5% by weight. The invention also relates to a process for improving the long-term resistance of water pipes to damage caused by oxidizing disinfectants from the water by use of this molding composition.
Abstract:
A polyolefinic moulding composition is suitable for producing pipes with improved resistance to thermo-oxidative degradation when these pipes are in extended contact with liquids which contain disinfectants with an oxidative action. Beside thermoplastic polyolefins, the moulding composition additionally contains specific aromatic amines which are liquid under standard conditions as an additive. The invention also relates to a pipe made from the moulding composition and to a process for improving the long-term resistance of water pipework made of plastics to damage by disinfectants with an oxidative action from the water by the use of this moulding composition.
Abstract:
A new polymeric composition of extruded conduits and pipes is described, which is free of fluoroelastomer processing additive whilst maintaining superior processability.
