Abstract: State information is communicated in a network to more efficiently utilize network resources. A first node forms a single extended query requesting state information from at least one logical image of a second node. The extended query is a single query requesting state information for multiple logical images of the first node. The requested state information includes the status of logical paths previously established between the multiple logical images of the first node and the at least one logical image of the second node. Upon sending the extended query to the second node, a single extended response can be formed at the second node having the requested state information.

Abstract: In einem Aspekt der vorliegenden Beschreibung können sichere Datenfestlegungs-Scanoperationen einzelner Datenspeichersysteme eines verteilten Datenspeichersystems synchronisiert werden, um das Auftreten von Verzögerungen bei den Ein-/Ausgabe (E/A)-Rückmeldungen zu reduzieren. In einer Ausführungsform wird ein Satz von sicheren Datenfestlegungs-Scanoperationen der einzelnen Datenspeichersysteme eines verteilten Datenspeichersystems so synchronisiert, dass sie sich innerhalb eines einzigen synchronisierten Satzintervalls von sicheren Datenfestlegungs-Scans zeitlich im Wesentlichen überlappen, um das Auftreten von Verzögerungen bei den Ein-/Ausgabe (E/A)-Rückmeldungen außerhalb des synchronisierten Satzintervalls von sicheren Datenfestlegungs-Scans zu reduzieren oder zu eliminieren. Abhängig von der jeweiligen Anwendung können weitere Merkmale und Aspekte realisiert werden.

Abstract: Es werden eine Vorrichtung, ein System und ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Punkt-zu-Punkt-Verbindung unter Verwendung von Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) offenbart. Die Punkt-zu-Punkt-Verbindung wird als ein Teil des FCoE-Initialisierungsprotokolls (FIP) hergestellt. Eine erste Computervorrichtung sendet eine FIP-Discovery-Anfrage an eine vordefinierte Adresse, wie zum Beispiel All FCF MAC. Die erste Computervorrichtung achtet auch auf die lokale ALL-FCF-MAC-Adresse und bestimmt, ob oder nicht es irgendwelche Switches in der Struktur gibt, die die erste Computervorrichtung und die zweite Computervorrichtung miteinander verbindet. Wenn es keine Switches gibt, sendet die erste Computervorrichtung eine zweite Discovery-Anfrage mit einem Punkt-zu-Punkt-Indikator. Wenn die erste Computervorrichtung eine ähnliche FIP-Discovery-Anfrage von der zweiten Computervorrichtung empfängt, sendet sie eine FIP-Discovery-Anzeige mit dem Punkt-zu-Punkt-Indikator. Die erste Computervorrichtung und die zweite Computervorrichtung führen dann einen Struktur-Login durch und stellen eine Punkt-zu-Punkt-Verbindung her.
