PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for determining chemical conversion treatability of steel, and a method for producing steel excellent in chemical conversion treatability utilizing the same.SOLUTION: Target steel is immersed in a chemical solution (chemical conversion treatment solution), and the immersing potential of the steel is continuously measured from the start of immersion to measure the time required for the immersing potential of the steel to be the same as the natural immersing potential in the chemical solution. The obtained time is compared with the appropriate treatment time determined for performing the chemical conversion treatment of steel using a chemical solution (chemical conversion treatment solution) to be used, and when the obtained time is 2/3 or less of the appropriate treatment time, the steel is determined to be steel excellent in chemical conversion treatability. Further, when the method for determining the chemical conversion treatability of steel is used to determine the chemical conversion treatability of target steel, and the steel is determined to be steel poor in chemical conversion treatability, improvement treatment of the chemical conversion treatability is performed to form steel excellent in chemical conversion treatability. A preferred improvement treatment of chemical conversion treatability includes the treatment of applying cold rolling, a shot blast, pickling, polishing/grinding, and the like.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forming method which does not need prepress even when the width of a horseshoe-shaped cross section of a product is smaller than the outside diameter of a pipe stock. SOLUTION: In the method for making a tube with special cross-sectional shape having the horseshoe-shaped cross section by putting a part of a workpiece 10 taking a round pipe as a pipe stock 1 between a projecting die 4 and a recessed die 3 and crushing it with them, the recessed die is divided into two and has variable width structure. After the workpiece is pressed into a smaller width than the outside diameter of the pipe stock with the recessed die which is divided into two and has the variable width structure, hydraulic pressure is applied into the body of the workpiece and the workpiece is formed into the horseshoe-shaped cross sectional shape by pushing into the projection die in that state. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-tensile welded steel pipe for automobile members having high strength and excellent workability and low-temperature toughness as well, and excellent resistance of softening of weld-heat affected zone. SOLUTION: The method for producing a high-tensile welded steel pipe comprises heating a welded steel pipe, as a base material, to its A c3 transformation temperature or higher wherein the welded steel pipe has a composition containing, by mass%, 0.02-0.15%C, 0.01-0.5%Si, 1.5-4.0%Mn, 0.1% or less P, 0.01% or less S, 0.01-0.1%Al, 0.0005-0.0030%B, over 0.04-0.1%Nb, 0.11-1.0%Cr, 0.01-0.5%Mo, 0.001-0.1%Ti, and 0.01% or less N, and then subjecting it to diameter reduction rolling at a cumulative diameter reduction ratio of 25-75% in a temperature range in which roll finish temperature is 700-900°C. Intermediate heat treatment may be performed during the diameter reduction rolling. By this way, the welded steel pipe is made into a steel pipe having a structure comprising a bainite phase or a bainitic ferrite phase or a structure in which the main phase is a bainite phase or a bainitic ferrite phase and the second phase is a martensite phase with an areal ratio of 15% or less, and also made into a steel pipe having a high tensile strength TS of 780 MPa or more, a high toughness having Trs 50 of -40°C or less, and excellent formability having an elongation El of 10% or more, a small decrease in hardness of a weld-heat affected zone, and excellent resistance to softening of a weld-heat affected zone. SOLUTION: A steel stock having the composition containing, by mass, 0.03-0.24% C, 0.021-0.044% V and further, Nb and/or Ti, is subjected to hot-rolling at higher temperature than a balanced solid-solution temperature T v calculated from log[V][C]=-9500/T v +6.72 (wherein, V, C are contents (mass%) of each element) to form the high tension hot-rolled steel sheet for automobile undercarriage component excellent in the formability and the torsional fatigue resistance, and further, this steel sheet is used as the stock for steel pipe, and a welded steel pipe is made through a pipe-making and welding processes. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel material superior in the chemical-conversion treatability of a worked member, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The steel material preferably includes, by mass%, 0.05% or more C, more than 0.7% Si and 0.8% or more Mn. The manufacturing method includes plating the surface of the steel material with a metal of such a slight plating deposition amount as 10 mg/m 2 or less. Thus, manufactured steel material does not cause the lowering of the chemical conversion treatability even when the steel material contains more than 0.7% Si, and can prevent the lowering of the chemical conversion treatability due to working, even when the steel material has been subjected to such working as to exceed 2% by a surface distortion. The metal to be plated is preferably Ni, Cu and Mo. The layer plated with the metal of the slight amount is discontinuously formed so as to partially cover the base steel material, and functions as a cationic point when chemical-conversion crystals deposit on the steel material. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lap one side spot welding method using a high-strength steel(s) which has high joining strength and suppresses generation of a burn and severe electrode wear. SOLUTION: When a high-strength steel and a soft steel or high-strength steels are lapped, and are welded and joined by one side spot welding using at least two electrodes separated by ≥50 mm, respectively, the high-strength steel(s) is used which has a composition containing, by mass, 0.7 to 2.5% Si and 0.8 to 3% Mn. In this way, a nugget is formed at the boundary between the lapped steel sheets, and a one side spot-welded and joined member having high joining strength is obtained. Further, in indirect type one side spot welding, either electrode to form into the welding side electrode is arranged by one piece at either (soft steel) side of the lapped materials to be welded, and the other electrodes to form into the earth side electrodes are arranged by at least two pieces at the other (high strength steel) side of the materials to be welded. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a high-workability high-strength thin steel sheet excellent in a chemical conversion property. SOLUTION: A working process is applied to the thin steel sheet containing ≥0.05 mass% C, >0.7 mass% Si and ≥0.8 mass% Mn, wherein working amount is adjusted such that sum of absolute values of surface strains imparted to the surface layer of the thin steel sheet to be 5% or more in a nominal strain. Accordingly, even the thin steel sheet containing >0.7 mass% Si is formed into a thin steel sheet having a good chemical conversion property without carrying out mechanical grinding, chemical pickling processing or the like. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-strength steel pipe having a seam portion and excellent in workability. SOLUTION: The high-strength steel pipe has a composition containing, by mass, 0.05-0.25% C, 0.5-2.0% Si, 1.0-2.5% Mn, ≤0.020% P, ≤0.002% S, 0.005-0.08% Al and ≤0.004% N. The structure of the region except a range of ±15° in the circumferential direction based on the center position of the seam is a structure containing 20-60% by area of a martensitic phase, the region except the range has a tensile residual stress of ≤450 MPa in the circumferential direction, and the hardness difference ΔHV between the region and the remaining region is ≤250 points by Vickers hardness. The steel pipe is preferably obtained by using a steel sheet having a structure containing a predetermined range of martensite as blank, and adopting a manufacturing process including a roll forming step in which little work strain is applied to the blank and a seam annealing step. A roll forming method by a cage roll system or a roll forming method in which a formed flower is made oval may be used in the roll forming step in which little work strain is applied to the blank. Accordingly, the high-strength steel pipe has such high strength as a tensile strength of ≥590 MPa, has a high elongation value suitable for the high strength, and is excellent in workability.
