Abstract:
The present invention is remote control system including one or moree portable units and a base unit which employs identifiction codes for security. The operator preferably can select the identification code for the base unit, preferably via a process yielding a random number, with a provision for selection of a predetermined reset code. The base unit teaches this identification code to a portable unit via mating asynchronous communication ports. The same identification code may be taught to plural portable units. This identification code is stored in a static random access memory in the portable units and in an electrically erasable read only memory in the base unit and this is not susceptible to determination by visual inspection. Each portable unit includes a capacitor for storing energy so that the battery, which ordinarily supplies electrical power to the portable unit, can be replaced without loss of the stored identification code. Each portable unit may have plural buttons and plural memories enabling a portable unit to operate a plurality of base units. This may also enable a single portable unit to control a plurality of operations of a single base unit.
Abstract:
The present invention is an automatic garage door operator with a two button portable controller enabling a secure mode and control of a load remote from the door operator. In accordance with the normal operation of the secure button, actuation when the garage door is closed toggles a secure mode between secure and non-secure states. In the secure state the automatic garage door operator does not move the door upon receipt of a door signal. To open the door when in the secure state the operator must first press the secure button to enter the non-secure state and then press the door button to open the door. The secure button has a secondary function when the garage door is open and the secure state is prohibited. Actuation of the secure button when the door is open toggles the state of a load remote from the automatic garage door operator between an on state and an off state. This control is achieved via a signal modulated on the electric power main.
Abstract:
Attachment of a ring, particularly a metal ring (2), to an article which has walls or skirts (1) of fibre-reinforced resin material. The ring has a plurality of external grooves (3, 4, 5, 6). The skirt comprises, for each groove in sequence, a first (32, 36, 37, 40) and second (33, 38, 39, 41) layer of fibre-reinforced resin material. The fibres in the first layer have a substantial orientation in directions parallel with the axis of the ring and extend from the skirt into the respective grooves. Overlying the first layer is a second layer comprising hoop windings from the skirt towards the groove. The second layer lies at least partly in the groove to lock the first layer in the groove. This layering is repeated for each groove and finally successive hoop windings (45, 46, 47, 48) are wound over the entire article. This is useful for attaching end rings to rocket motor cases or for attaching rings to pressure vessels to define an aperture.

Abstract:
Sound attenuation devices are provided that may be temporarily worn in a person's ear. The devices generally include a first flange that is configured to be disposed in a person's ear; a second flange that is positioned proximate to the first flange and is also configured to be disposed in the person's ear (with the second flange having a proximate end that exhibits an oblong perimeter); and a cylindrical shaft extending from an interior portion of the second flange. The shaft includes an integrally connected pull tab; it extends beyond the proximate end of the second flange; and the shaft includes an integrally formed reinforcing member that spans an exterior side of the shaft and at least a portion of the pull tab. The devices further include a sound filter disposed within an internal cavity of the shaft.
Abstract:
A spa tub system comprising a spa tub and at least one compartment integrated into the frame of the spa tub. The compartment includes a hatch which is attached to the compartment using a hinge assembly. The hinge assembly includes a bearing trough, a bearing cam, and a cam stop. The hatch is pivoted to open and close and can open to a predefined angle. At this predefined angle, the hatch cannot be removed. When the hatch is pivoted to a pivot angle less than the predefined angle, the hatch can be removed.
Abstract:
The invention provides a polishing composition comprising (a) silica, (b) one or more compounds that increase the removal rate of silicon, (c) one or more tetraalkylammonium salts, and (d) water, wherein the polishing composition has a pH of about 7 to about 11. The invention further provides a method of polishing a substrate with the polishing composition.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a golf performance tracking and mapping device that utilizes a handheld, portable device having an optical scanner for reading waypoints along a course map, cataloging strokes, distances and further for suggesting and cataloging club choices throughout a round. The data gathered during the round is utilized to create measurable data that can be utilized to create a portfolio of a specific round for posterity, or further for creating data that can be statistically analyzed for a specific user, wherein club ranges, weaknesses and strengths can be determined over a statistically significant period for performance tracking. The device includes a display and an internal global positioning system for tracking location. It is desired that the present tracking device require minimal user input beyond club scanning prior to subsequent swings.

Abstract:
A drilling attachment for use in wet and dry drilling operations includes a housing having first and second fluid conduits, and a drive shaft mounted within the housing and having fluid transmitting first and second end portions in fluid communication with a respective first and second fluid conduit. In one embodiment, at any time one end of the drive shaft is coupled to a drive unit and the other end of the drive shaft is coupled to a core drill bit. In a dry drilling operation, dust is extracted from the core of the drill bit, is passed through the drive shaft and exits the housing via one of the fluid conduits. In a wet drilling operation, fluid such as water is passed through the other of the fluid conduits, through the drive shaft and into the core of the drill bit.
