    Abstract: Vinylbenzyl derivatives are obtained by reaction of vinylbenzyl halides with alkali metal cyanates, in the presence of a polymerisation inhibitor, in a polar solvent containing a nitrogen atom or a sulphur atom but free of active hydrogen atoms in the molecule, in the presence or in the absence of a compound containing an active hydrogen, and at a temperature between 25 and 200 DEG C. Tris(vinylbenzyl) isocyanurate is obtained by such a reaction, in the absence of a compound containing an active hydrogen, whereas di(vinylbenzyl)urea is obtained by the reaction in the presence of water, and an N'-substituted vinylbenzylurea is obtained by the reaction in the presence of an amine.

    Abstract: 1326526 Catalytic polymerization of tetrahydrofuran KAO SOAP CO Ltd 15 Sept 1971 [16 Sept 1970] 42981/71 Heading C3R Tetrahydrofuran is polymerized at- 40 to +80‹ C. in the absence of water and in the presence of 5 to 50% by weight of fuming sulphuric acid (based on the weight oftetrahydrofuran) and also 0À01 to 70 mol per cent of a fluorine-containing compound based on the free SO 3 in the fuming sulphuric acid. The terminal groups of the resulting polymer are subjected to a hydrolysis step to provide the required hydroxy-terminated polymer. The process may be carried out in the presence of a solvent, e.g. 1, 2-dichloroethane, or in the absence of a solvent. Fluorine-containing compounds are suitably sodium, potassium and ammonium fluorides, fluorosulphonic and borofluoric acids, ammonium and potassium borofluorides, boron trifluoride and ether complexes thereof, fluorobenzene, fluorotoluene, 2-fluoroethanol, trichlorofluoromethane and trichlorotrifluoroethane. Examples describe the preparation of polytetrahydrofurans having molecular weights of from 888 to 6222.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily mold a robust self-hardening mold by kneading the reaction productor the mixture of specific multifunctional compounds and phenolic resins with glyoxal on sand. CONSTITUTION:The reaction product or the mixture of phenols such as phenol or cresol represented by the formula, aldehydes such as formaldehyde represented by RCHO and multifunctional compounds having two or more functional groups of two or more of primary amino groups, secondary amino groups, hydrazide groups and hydroxyl groups is kneaded together in the presence of glyoxal with aggregate consisting essentially of sand. This is filled in a molding flask and is molded. The phenolic resins, multifunctional compounds and glyoxal are used in a proportion of 0.5-10wt%, 0.15-7%, 0.1-30%, respectively, based on the weight of the aggregate. The mold which does not contain any sulfur content may be obtained by this method without using heat energy.
