The present invention relates to a clothes dryer, comprising: a cabinet; a driving motor (140) installed inside the cabinet; a drum (110) rotated by receiving power from the driving motor (140); an air duct (111) connected to the drum (110) to form a flow path for air circulation; a blower (113) installed in the air duct (111) to circulate the air; a heat pump cycle (120) installed in the air duct (111), and including an evaporator (121) and a condenser (124) connected by a refrigerant pipe (127), to absorb heat of air flowing along the air duct (111) and supply the heat to air introduced into the drum (110); an auxiliary heat exchanger (128, 131, 231) installed in the refrigerant pipe (127) to further cool refrigerant passing through the condenser (124); and an auxiliary cooling fan (129, 132, 232) driven by receiving power from the driving motor (140) to cool the auxiliary heat exchanger (128, 131, 231).

The present invention relates to a clothes dryer, including a drum, a heat pump cycle having a first evaporator, a compressor and a condenser, and a blower for circulating air, wherein the heat pump cycle includes second to nth evaporators disposed in series with the first evaporator within an air duct; an auxiliary heat exchanger to cool refrigerant discharged from the condenser, and first to nth expansion valves to independently control flow rates of refrigerants flowing into the first to nth evaporators, wherein the dryer further includes a controller to control the compressor according to refrigerant discharge pressure of the compressor or refrigerant inlet pressure of the condenser.

Disclosed are a clothes treating apparatus and an operating method thereof. For a clothes treating apparatus comprising a drum configured to accommodate therein an object to be dried, an air suction duct configured to form a flow path of air introduced into the drum, an auxiliary fan configured to introduce air into the air suction duct, an air exhaustion duct configured to form a flow path of air exhausted from the drum, a main fan configured to exhaust air to the air exhaustion duct from the drum, a condenser disposed to heat air sucked into the drum through the air suction duct, an evaporator disposed to cool air exhausted from the drum through the air exhaustion duct, and a compressor and an expander configured to constitute a heat pump together with the condenser and the evaporator, the method includes measuring a discharge side pressure (Pd) of the compressor, and comparing the measured discharge side pressure (Pd) with a maximum allowable pressure (Pm), and determining that the auxiliary fan does not operate when the discharge side pressure (Pd) is more than the maximum allowable pressure (Pm).

Disclosed are a method for diagnosing a clothes treating apparatus, and a clothes treating apparatus having a refrigerant leakage detecting means. In a clothes treating apparatus comprising a drum configured to accommodate therein an object to be dried, an air suction means configured to form a flow path of air introduced into the drum, an air exhaustion means configured to form a flow path of air exhausted from the drum, a condenser disposed to heat air sucked into the drum through the air suction means, an evaporator disposed to cool air exhausted from the drum through the air exhaustion means, and a compressor and an expander configured to constitute a heat pump together with the condenser and the evaporator, the method includes a temperature detection step of detecting a temperature change of air passing through the condenser or the air suction means, and a determination step of determining that refrigerant leakage has occurred when a temperature decrease amount measured in the temperature detection step is more than a predetermined level.
