A mobile terminal is disclosed. The mobile terminal for visible light communication, according o one embodiment of the present invention, uses visible light outputted from a lighting that turns on/off according to a preset condition, and the mobile terminal comprises: a light receiving unit for receiving visible light; a control unit for extracting, from the received visible light, data corresponding to the turning on/off; and a display unit for displaying information based on the extracted data, wherein the light receiving unit comprises at least one among an illuminance sensor, a first image sensor disposed on the front of the mobile terminal, and a second image sensor disposed on the back of the mobile terminal, and the control unit controls so that visible light communication is performed by using, among the illuminance sensor, the first image sensor, and the second image sensor, the sensor that receives visible light having the greatest signal strength.
