The network system includes an utility area network including an energy generation component, a home area network including an energy consumption component consuming energy generated in the energy generation component to perform a function according to an operation course, an energy metering component disposed in the utility area network or the home area network, the energy metering component recognizing energy information or additional information except for the energy information, and an energy management component disposed in the utility area network or the home area network, the energy management component managing the energy information or the additional information with respect to the energy consumption component. The energy consumption component includes a control unit for controlling an operation of at least one course component constituting the operation course to restrict the operation of the one course component based on the energy information or the additional information.

The network system includes: a first component having a first device code and performing a predetermined function; and a second component having a second device code and exchanging information with the first component for communication connection. One of the first and second components receives a command for the communication connection and generates a connection sequence. The component generating the connection sequence exchanges communication addresses and device codes with the other component receiving the connection sequence. If the information has not been exchanged between the first component and the second component during a predetermined time, the first component and the second component are switched to a communication connection standby mode.

    Abstract: A washing machine and a method of controlling the same are disclosed. The amount of laundry that is introduced into the washing machine is measured using gravity and inertia applied during the operation of the motor (270), whereby it is possible to precisely calculate the amount of laundry and to minimize the effects of the initial position of the laundry and the movement of the laundry. In addition, the current value of the motor (270) that is operated is used to measure the amount of laundry without a sensor. Furthermore, the amount of laundry is measured at the rotational speed of the motor at which the laundry clings to the drum, whereby it is possible to minimize an error due to the movement of the laundry to thus improve accuracy. Moreover, it is possible to determine the amount of laundry within a short time. Consequently, it is easy to commence the spin-drying operation, thereby reducing washing time and saving energy.
