A hot neighbour list is used to prioritise the order in which the neighbour pilots are scanned. A logic and control circuit 113 determines if neighbour pilots should be scanned beyond the assigned slot, if the hot neighbour list should be modified, and if the wireless communication device should be handed off to another pilot.

    Abstract: In a CDMA communication system using pseudorandom noise (PN) codes, a radiotelephone 104 has a receiver searcher 114 comprising at least one matched filter 128 for detecting the pilot signals of all nearby base stations 102. Pilot signals spread with PN sequences are detected by comparison in the matched filter with predetermined PN sequences stored in the radiotelephone. The matched filter provides a response signal when a match is found. A controller 116 identifies the strongest pilot signal and initiates communication with the corresponding base station. The controller identifies each signal and assigns fingers 122, 124, 126 of a rake receiver to the strongest received signals. These may be from different base stations or multipath signals from the same base station. The matched filter provides fast acquisition of pilot signals by the receiver searcher thus improving performance of initial system acquisition, idle mode and soft handoff.

    Abstract: The power control apparatus of the present invention is comprised of a local oscillator signal path coupled to a mixer (106) through a variable attenuator (107) and an IF signal path coupled to the mixer (106) through two variable attenuators (108 and 109) coupled in series. The IF signal path attenuators (108 and 109) are controlled by digital control circuitry (111) while the local oscillator path attenuator (107) is controlled by the control circuitry through a level shifter (110). The power level of the signal generated by the mixing of these two signals is less than the conducted output of the radiotelephone's power amplifier.

    Abstract: This description is of a completely bi-directional loudspeaker telephone which uses matching filters and has applications in radio telephone systems. For suppressing the reconnection echo in a received acoustic signal, a representation of the reception signal generated via an A/D transformer 601 and a matching filter 301 by a summation unit 303 is subtracted from the transmission signal which is generated by the microphone 115 of the loudspeaker telephone. The coefficients for representation of the reception signals of the matching filter utilized in the matching filter 301 for reception signals are modified, when the reception signal is detected in a land-based signal detector 225. In order to suppress electronic echo in the transmission signal in the same way, a representation of the transmission signal generated via an A/D transformer 605 and a matching filter 305 by a summation unit 307 is subtracted from the reception signal. The coefficients for representation of the transmission signals of the matching filter utilized in the matching filter 305 for transmission signals are modified, when the transmission signal is detected.
