Abstract:
Abstract:
In a wireless code-division multiple access (CDMA) system (100), a talkgroup (101) of subscriber units is provided. A sub-group (102) of subscriber units, forming a part of the talkgroup is assigned at least one inbound code (416-417). The entire talkgroup is assigned an outbound code (415). Members of the sub-group may simultaneously transmit voice information (410-411) using the at least one inbound code, which voice information is summed (412) and retransmitted to the talkgroup using the outbound code. Subscriber units in the talkgroup, but not included in the sub-group, are allowed to transmit voice information only after requesting, and receiving, an additional inbound code.
Abstract:
Alternate communication services may be provided in a communication system (100) based on the geographic location of a target communication unit. When a service request, which identifies the target communication unit and a particular service, is received by a communication resource controller (101), the communication resource controller (101) ascertains the location of a target communication unit and determines whether the target unit is located within a predefined area. If the target unit (102, 103) is located with the predefined area, the communication resource controller (101) determines whether the particular service requested is prohibited in the predefined area. If the service is prohibited, an alternate service is made available to the initiating communication unit.
Abstract:
A personal communications device (100) includes a wireless transceiver (206, 207, 208) to allow a two-way exchange of user information, and to allow down loading of remote control signalling information. The latter can be transmitted via an appropriate transmitter (210 or 211) to facilitate remote control of a remote controlled device.
Abstract:
A method (215) of converting a current control channel for use as a communication (voice/data) channel, in order to maintain a predetermined level of service in a radio communications system, employs a central controller (101) to allocate a limited number of communication channels among a plurality of subscriber units (108-112). After receiving (203) a request for a communication channel from one of a plurality of subscriber units (108-112), the controller (101) determines (205) whether all of the communication channels are busy. The controller then temporarily converts (215) the current control channel to a communication channel.
