Abstract:
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a dimercaptothiadiazole salt of a copolymer comprising units derived from monomers (i) an ?-olefin and (ii) an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or derivatives thereof (typically carboxylic acid groups or an anhydride), are partially esterified with an alcohol, or mixtures thereof, and wherein at least a portion of carboxylic acid groups not esterified are reacted with an amine. The invention further provides for a lubricating composition containing said copolymer. The invention further provides a method and use of lubricating composition in a mechanical device.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity; an amide represented by the formula R1R2N—C(O)R3 wherein R1 and R2 are hydrocarbyl groups of at least 6 carbon atoms and R3 is a hydroxyalkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a group formed by the condensation of said hydroxyalkyl group, through a hydroxyl group thereof, with an acylating agent; a nitrogen-containing dispersant; and a phosphorus-containing compound are suitable for lubricating a transmission.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a composition comprising the product prepared by hearing together: (a) a dispersant; and (b) a 1,3-dicarboxylic acid or 1,4-dicarboxylic acid of an aromatic compound, or a reactive equivalent thereof; and at least one of: (c) 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole or a hydrocarbyl-substituted 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, or an oligomer thereof; (d) a borating agent; and (e) a phosphorus acid compound, or a reactive equivalent thereof, said heating being sufficient to provide a reaction product of (a), (b), and (c), (d), or (e), which is soluble in an oil of lubricating viscosity. The invention further provides a use for the composition.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method to analyze the condition of a functional fluid comprising: (1) obtaining a sample of the used fluid; (2) placing the sample of the fluid to a test medium; (3) reacting the fluid with an indicator in the test medium; (4) analyzing visually the results of the reactor resulting in the determination of the condition of the fluid. Further an apparatus for analyzing functional fluids is disclosed in the form of a test medium consisting of an absorbent or nonabsorbent material which has been treated with a chemical indicator, marker substance or a developer or detector reagent upon which a sample of the fluid to be tested is placed. The components in the treated test medium react with components in the test fluid providing a visual indication, for example a color change, to judge the condition, the presence of a marker substance or another parameter of the fluid. The functional fluid may be a lubricant, fuel or other functional fluid of innumerable sources, including internal combustion engines, turbines, transmissions, differentials, pumps, metalworking operations, cooling systems, etc, and be either organic solvent or aqueous based.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device by using a lubricating composition containing a thiadiazole-functionalised dispersant. The invention further provides a lubricating composition suitable for the mechanical device containing a thiadiazole-functionalised dispersant and a polysulphide.
Abstract:
An assembly of a cam and a tilt lock in a shoe for a tilt sash includes retainer tabs disposed near the cam to trap movable brake pads between the tabs and a shoe wall so that the brake pads can move apart in response to pivoting of the cam to a locked position and can move back toward each other to an unlocked position while remaining effectively retained by the tabs.
Abstract:
A composition of a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; a secondary or tertiary amine being represented by the formula R1R2NR3 wherein R1 and R2 are alkyl groups of at least 6 carbon atoms and R3 is hydrogen, a hydrocarbyl group, a hydroxyl-containing alkyl group, or an amine-containing alkyl group; and a dispersant, provides high static coefficients of friction and a durable positive slope during oxidative and mechanical stressing, particularly as a friction component of an automatic transmission.
Abstract:
A process for reacting olefinic compounds, certain carboxylic reactants, and aldehydes or ketones and products prepared by the process. The compositions of the process are useful as intermediates for the preparation of additives for lubricants and fuels.
Abstract:
Weight sensors coupled to the bed of a conventional haulage truck measure the weight applied to each tire strut as the truck is being loaded. Based on the weight applied to each strut, the exact position of the center of gravity of the load in the truck's bed is calculated and displayed on a monitor relative to a target position deemed optimal for uniform weight distribution. Based on this information, the operator of the loading machine can complete the loading operation in such a way as to shift the center of gravity toward the chosen target position. In another embodiment of the invention, an automated algorithm calculates and displays where the next bucket load should be dropped, based on its approximate weight, in order to shift the center of gravity toward the target location.
Abstract:
