Abstract: An article designed for adherent vulcanization of rubber thereto comprises a ferrous metal base having a coating of zinc separated by a thin coating, i.e. at last 1 microinch thick, of nickel from a coating of rubber-adherent copper, i.e. of thickness 1/60,000 to 1/240,000 inch. As described, a ferrous tyre bead wire of diameter 0.037 to 0.043 inch is cleaned and hot galvanized, electrolytically cleaned in a sodium cyanide-caustic soda bath, and is then electroplated in succession with 2 microinches of nickel followed by copper.
