PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device which hardly generates illumination spots and is suitable for an image reading device.SOLUTION: The illumination device includes a light-emitting body, and a light guide for guiding light of the light-emitting body along an illumination line direction and lighting an illumination line zone as a linear light. The light guide having a bar shape extended in a longitudinal direction includes an incident face, first and second side faces, a reflecting face, and an emitting face. The first and second side faces are formed of faces (curved faces) having a first face (curvature) connected with at least the emitting face, and a second face (curvature) connected with the reflecting face. The width in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the reflecting face is varied by the second faces (curvature) for forming the first and second side faces, and a reflection pattern face with width spreading out sequentially stepwise with an incident face side as one end face toward the another end in the longitudinal direction is formed on the reflecting face.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which can arrange a light source lamp to be arranged at a position close and opposite to an image reading surface, and a reflection mirror at positions very close to each other, and can read out a shiny image in strict quality.SOLUTION: In an image reading device, a first light source having a predetermined incident angle to a reading surface and a second light source having a smaller incident angle than the predetermined incident angle are arranged, and reflection light from the reading surface is photoelectrically converted by a common reading light path. One of a plurality of reflection mirrors disposed in the reading light path at this time, comprises a coating surface for performing mirror reflection of light to a surface of a translucent plate material and a non-coating surface through which light penetrates, and from a back side of the non-coating surface, light of the second light source is radiated to the reading surface. At the same time, an irradiation angle of light from the second light source and an angle of the reading light path are substantially set in the same angle.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightning device which prevents illumination spots and is optimum for an image reading device.SOLUTION: A lightning device comprises an illuminant and a light guide which radiates light of the illuminant incident thereon as a linear light source. The light guide has a rod shape and forms an incidence face facing the illuminant for allowing light incident thereon, lateral faces opposite each other to reflect the incident light in a longer direction, a reflection face for reflecting the reflection light in a direction crossing the longer direction, and an emission face for emitting the reflection light. Also the light guide has a protrusion part which protrudes from the lateral face and extends along the longer direction. The protrusion part extends in the longer direction from a protrusion formation position which is placed at a predetermined distance in the longer direction from an end face forming the incidence face facing the illuminant. The inside of the protrusion part forms reflection surfaces with the lateral sides, and the lateral sides form a shape gradually widening from the protrusion formation position of the protrusion part toward the incidence face.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus that can read an image with a reproducibility to meet the purpose of document images having a different glossiness.SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus includes output value correction means for shading-correcting a specular reflection output value and a diffusion reflection output value obtained from photoelectric conversion means by irradiating light from a specular reflection light source and a diffusion reflection light source on a document image. The output value correction means includes correction value generation means for generating a maximum output reference value for high glossiness reference, a first minimum output reference value for low glossiness reference, a second minimum output reference value that is set from a dark output value of the photoelectric conversion means, first correction data based on the first minimum output reference value and the maximum output reference value, and second correction data based on the second minimum output reference value and the maximum output reference value. The image reading apparatus is configured so as to select and correct the first and the second correction data when shading-correcting the specular reflection output value during execution of specular reflection reading.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader for constantly giving a sufficient amount of air flow to a heat sink without providing any special dedicated fans and regardless of a transfer position of a carriage by cooling a light source unit mounted on the carriage by a drive motor of a self-propelled scanner. SOLUTION: The image reader includes a platen for placing a document, the carriage traveling along the platen, and a line sensor for reading a document image obtained by the travel of the carriage. The carriage includes the light source unit that is mounted on the carriage to irradiate a read surface of the platen with light and the drive motor that is mounted on the carriage and allows the carriage itself to travel. The light source unit includes a light emitter and a thermally conductive heat dissipation member for supporting the light emitter and radiating heat generated by the light emitter. The drive motor includes a drive transmission means of transmitting rotation of the motor and a cooling fan that is rotated by driving the motor and cools the heat dissipation member. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which smoothly and surely carries and reads an original by making the radius of curvature of an original carrying path that goes to an original ejecting part from an original feeding part large in carrying a sheet-like document while reading a moving image of the document and is compactified. SOLUTION: This image reader 21 comprises a fixed original reading means 22 having a platen 33, a movable reading part 34 for performing a reading operation of a book type original along the surface of the platen 33, an optical sensor 38, etc., and a moving original reading means 23 provided with an original feeding part 41 which holds the fixed original reading means 22 and feeds sheet-like originals 32 upward by one at a time, an original ejecting part 44 for ejecting a read original 32 downward, a vertical carrying part 52 located between the original feeding part 41 and the original ejecting part 44 to carry the original 32 vertically and a fixed reading part 43 for reading an original passing through the vertical carrying part 52. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multifunction type image forming device where the height direction of a cabinet is made as small as possible and which is excellent in operability. SOLUTION: This optical reader is mounted at the upper part of the image forming device, and is constituted of a light source means for irradiating a platen glass and an original surface with light, a photoelectric conversion means receiving reflected light from an original and converting it into an electric signal, an optical path means for guiding the reflected light to the photoelectric conversion means, and a housing whose one end side is formed to be thicker than the other end side. The image forming device is provided with the cabinet housing a sheet ejection means ejecting an image forming sheet and an ejection tray receiving and stacking the image forming sheet ejected from the sheet ejection means.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightning device which prevents illumination spots from being generated and is optimum for document lightning of an image reading device.SOLUTION: A lightning device comprises an illuminant, a light guide in which incident light of the illuminant radiates as a linear light source, and light guide support means for supporting the light guide. The light guide support means is composed of: a light guide housing member provided with a groove extending in a longer direction for housing the light guide; and a light guide holding member for holding the light guide housed in the groove of the light guide housing member at its housing position. The light guide holding member forms: a contact face to be in contact with a protrusion part of the light guide housed in the groove of the light guide reception member; and a locking part for positioning a lateral side of the light guide, which faces a support face of the light guide housing member, on the support face by pressing the contact face against the protrusion part of the light guide.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit which can emit light in a light volume meeting the reading optical system characteristics when linear light is irradiated on a reading surface and can be manufactured in a simple structure and at a low cost.SOLUTION: The lighting device is composed of a light guide body, a light source unit opposing at least one end face of this light guide body, and a reflector for reflecting light from the light source toward the light guide body. In order that a substrate and the light guide body for supporting the light source of the light source unit are separated with a predetermined distance, a supporting means for press-supporting the light guide body and the substrate with the reflector interposed is provided. Thereby, the positions of the light guide body and the light source can be regulated, and generation of unevenness of a light volume can be prevented.
