Abstract:
A cylindrical tube (300) is provided of a mechanically strong and flexible electrical conductor such as a metal and has a plurality of separated regions. An electrically insulating layer (310) such as a ceramic is applied on the outer surface except for one exposed portion (110). Electrically resistive heaters (122) are then applied to the insulated regions and are electrically connected at one end to the underlying electrical conducting region. The electrical conductor is connected to the negative terminal of a power source. The other end of all the heaters are adapted to be connected to the positive terminal of the source. Accordingly, an electrically resistive heating circuit is formed wherein the tube serves as a common for all of the heating elements. The tubular heater can comprise an exposed end hub with a plurality of blades extending therefrom. Each blade can have an individual heater deposited thereon. Alternatively, every other blade can have a heater deposited thereon. The blades having no heaters function as barriers to minimize outward escape of generated vapors. These barrier blades also function as heat sinks for the heaters on adjacent blades.
Abstract:
There is provided highly purified tobacco putrescine N-methyltransferase, a process for its purification, and production of PMT DNA sequence. The purification process includes the step of applying a tobacco root extract to an anion exchange medium and specifically eluting putrescine N-methyltransferase with an elution buffer comprising putrescine.
Abstract:
A smoking system (21) is provided in which a replaceable cigarette (23) containing tobacco flavor material is electrically heated by a set of electrical heater elements contained within a lighter (25) to evolve tobacco flavors or other components in vapor or aerosol form for delivery to a smoker. The cigarette (23) and lighter (25) are adapted to provide air flow patterns through the smoking system such that air flows transversely into the cigarette (23). Such patterns improve aerosol and flavor delivery to the smoker and reduce the condensation of residual heater-region vapor/aerosol in the smoking system.
Abstract:
A flavor generating unit (10) is provided for use in an article for delivering to a consumer a flavor-containing substance, the article having electrical heating means (12) disposed in a cavity. The flavor generating unit (10) includes a carbon fibrous mat (16) and flavor generating medium (14) disposed on the mat (16) for providing efficient generation of flavor-containing substance. The carbon mat (16) includes carbon fibers that are made from a precursor selected from the group consisting of rayon, pitch, and polyacrylonitrile. A flavor generating article incorporating the flavor generating unit is also provided.
