    Abstract: A reflector lamp is described which consist essentially of a light source, in particular in the form of a high-pressure gas discharge lamp (HID [high intensity discharge] lamp or UHP [ultra high performance] lamp), as well as a main or secondary reflector ( 12 ), and a primary reflector ( 25 ) by means of which light from the light source ( 22 ) can be reflected through the light source ( 22 ) onto the main reflector ( 12 ). The primary reflector ( 25 ) is arranged such that those regions of the main reflector ( 12 ) are obscured which are optically inactivated regions, for example because of a lead-through and/or a fastening device for the lamp, which have no reflection properties, or which have reflection properties that adversely affect the radiation characteristic of the reflector lamp. The reflector lamp is particularly suitable for projection applications because of its high luminous efficacy. Furthermore, a substantially automated and accordingly cost-effective assembly of the lamp is possible.

    Abstract: A method and a circuit arrangement for operating a discharge lamp, in particular during the first hours of operation after lamp manufacture, are described. The method and the circuit arrangement are provided in particular for high-pressure gas discharge lamps (HID or high intensity discharge lamps or UHP or ultra high performance lamps). Furthermore, a lighting unit with a discharge lamp and such a circuit arrangement and a projection system with a projection display and such a lighting unit are described. Switching-over between various modes of operation with different operating frequencies serves to avoid that the burning voltage of the lamp drops into a region of a minimum voltage of a lamp driver unit below which the latter can no longer drive the lamp with its rated power or a desired power.

    Abstract: A projection system for image reproduction includes at least one lamp and sensor for generating a sensor signal for monitoring changes in the luminous flux generated by the lamp and for compensating these changes through a suitable control of the image reproduction. The projection system further includes a device for eliminating substantially periodic interference components from the sensor signal generated by the sensor. These interference components may be generated by an optical component such as a color modulator of the projection system. The projection system provides substantially interference-free compensation of fluctuations in the luminous flux generated by the lamp, for example, owing to an unstable arc discharge. Further, the positioning of the sensor in the projection system may not be critical.

    Abstract: A circuit arrangement is provided for operating a high pressure discharge lamp with a lamp current which, in successive periods, has opposite polarities. The lamp is provided with at least two main electrodes being spaced an electrode distance from each other.     Abstract: The invention relates to an electronic circuit and a method of supplying energy to a high-pressure gas-discharge lamp H, 65, 75 . The electronic circuit comprises a line-supply input section 62, 72 to receive and convert an a.c. voltage from an a.c. line-supply system 61, 71 , an energy storage means 63, 73 to store the energy put out by the line-supply input section 62, 72 and a lamp-current regulating unit 64, 74 that is supplied with an input voltage U 1 by the line-supply input section 62, 72 via the energy storage means 63, 73 and that makes available a lamp current I 2 for a high-pressure gas-discharge lamp II, 65, 75 . To make it possible for the energy storage means 63, 73 to be particularly small, it is proposed that the lamp-current regulating unit 64, 74 have a power section L, D, C, S, A 1 , A 2 , K having a transconductive property. If there is a drop in the input voltage U 1 , this property then automatically produces a reduction in the lamp current I 2 made available to a high-pressure gas-discharge lamp 65, 75 , H. This ensures a particularly fast adjustment to voltage fluctuations. The invention also relates to a corresponding method.
