Abstract:
The use of polymeric corrosion inhibiting compositions incorporating heterocyclic groups is disclosed. The polymers form a protective barrier on metallic components to aqueous systems and remain substantive on metallic surfaces over a wide pH range. Moreover, the polymers are resistant to oxidizing biocides, and are substantially impervious to repeated or prolonged exposure to corrosive agents.
Abstract:
A new class of polymeric corrosion inhibiting compositions incorporating pendant heterocyclic groups which are surprisingly effective copper corrosion inhibitors are disclosed. The polymers form a protective barrier on metallic components to aqueous systems and remain substantive on metallic surfaces over a wide pH range. Moreover, the polymers are resistant to oxidizing biocides, and are substantially impervious to repeated or prolonged exposure to corrosive agents.
Abstract:
The invention provides a detergent formulations comprising at least one water soluble polymer, or salt thereof, bearing at least one phosphonate group. Suitable polymers comprise: wherein X is H, Na, K or A; and A is a polymer, copolymer, or water soluble salt thereof, comprising, one or more of the following monomers in polymerised form:- carboxylic acids of the formula wherein R 1 is H, OH, C 1 -C 9 alkyl or alkoxy or acetoxy or acetate R 2 is H, C 1 -C 3 alkyl or alkoxy, COOR 3 R 3 is H, Na, K or C 1 -C 10 alkyl; hydroxypropyl acrylate, propyl methacrylate, 2-acrylamido-2-propane sulphonic acid, sodium styrene sulphonate, sodium allylsulphonate, sodium methyl sulphonate, vinyl sulphonic acid, and salts thereof; acrylamide, methacrylamide, tert-butylacrylamide, (meth)acrylonitrile, styrene, vinyl acetate allyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl sulphonate and dialkylacrylamide. Machine dish washing detergents and laundry detergents are also provided which comprise detergent formulations of the present invention.
Abstract:
Polycarboxylate additives suitable for use in automatic dishwasher detergent compositions are prepared by polymerizing three or more monomers including monoethylenically unsaturated C 3 to C 6 monocarboxylic acids such as acrylic acid, monoethylenically unsaturated C 4 to C 6 dicarboxylic acids such as maleic acid, and monoethylenically unsaturated esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid. Automatic dishwasher detergents prepared from these additives produce low filming and spotting on washed glassware.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an aqueous process for preparing water-soluble addition copolymers of containing, as polymerized units: (a) from about 3 to about 95 percent by weight of one or more cyclohexene anhydrides or the alkali metal or ammonium salts thereof, and (b) from about 5 to about 97 percent by weight of one or more monomers C₄-C₆ monoethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids and the alkali metal and ammonium salts thereof. These copolymers are useful as water-treatment additives for boiler waters and cooling towers and as detergent additives acting as builders, anti-filming agents, dispersants, sequestering agents and encrustation inhibitors.

Abstract:
The invention provides a method of enhancing the filming and spotting characteristics of cleaning compositions, for example hard surface cleaners and automatic machine dishwashing formulations, by incorporating into the compositions polymers containing, as polymerized units, (a) one or more monomer selected from C 3 -C 6 monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and alkali metal and ammonium salts thereof, (b) one or more an-aminoacryloyl derivative, and (c) optionally, one or more monoethylenically unsaturated monomer polymerisable with (a) and (b). The invention also provides polymers suitable for use in such method.
