    Abstract: A vortex flowmeter (10) senses a pressure of vortices in a flowing fluid and transmits an output related to mass flow. The vortex flowmeter includes a dynamic filter (68) filtering the vortex pressure signal. The dynamic filter (68) provides a first filtered output signal (82) and a second filtered output signal (86). The dynamic filter (68) includes a controllable transfer function. Control circuitry (70) controls the controllable transfer function and provides an output related to mass flow as a function of the first filtered output signal (82) and the second filtered output signal (86). Transmitter circuitry (85) receives the output signal and transmits a signal related to mass flow.

    Abstract: A vortex sensor (11) senses generated vortices and provides a vortex signal. A filtering circuit (68) is coupled to the vortex sensor (11) to receive the vortex signal and provide an output indicative of fluid flow. A temperature sensor (82) senses a temperature of the fluid and provides a temperature value, while a pressure sensor (86) senses a pressure of the fluid and provides a pressure value. A processor (70, 70A) is operably coupled to the filtering circuit (68), the temperature sensor (82), and the pressure sensor (86) for receiving the output, the temperature value, and the pressure value, respectively. The processor (70, 70A) calculates a calibration factor as a function of the output, the temperature value, and the pressure value for use in calculating the output value indicative of the flow rate of the fluid.

    Abstract: A vortex sensor used in a vortex flowmeter that has a single sensing diaphragm parallel to the direction of flow that is sensitive to differential pressures caused by vortices shed by a vortex shedding bar associated with the sensing diaphragm. A beam is attached to the sensing diaphragm and it transfers the deflecting motion of the sensing diaphragm due to differential pressures to a sensor external to the flow passageway. The sensor provides an output indicating motions of the beam caused by the beam pivoting when the sensing diaphragm deflects. The beam preferably is pivoted on a relatively rigid, fluid-tight isolator diaphragm with one end of the beam on the outside of the isolator diaphragm. The sensing diaphragm which is used to measure differential pressure rejects variations in the static pressure, that is, increases and decreases of the static pressure on both sides of the diaphragm, which is a common source of problems with existing vortex flowmeter sensors.
