Abstract: The invention concerns an absorbent product such as a sanitary napkin, a pantyliner or an incontinence protector with an essentially elongated shape which has at least one attachment flap (22) arranged on a longitudinal side edge (8) of the product and folded over the liquid-permeable surface (2) of the product and having at least one adhesive attachment means (24) on the surface of the attachment flap (22) facing away from the product in the folded condition, and further a packaging wrapper (17) also of essentially longitudinal shape, whereby the packaging wrapper (17) lies on the liquid-impermeable surface (3) of the product and is folded together with the product along at least one transverse fold line (14) on the product to form a package (30). A distinguishing feature of the invention is that a protective layer (26) is arranged with a release agent-treated surface on the protective flap (26) removably lying over the adhesive attachment means (24) on the attachment flap (22), and has a part (28) which is firmly attached to the packaging wrapper (17) near a transverse end edge (19) on the packaging wrapper (17), wherein the joint (29) between the protective layer (26) and the packaging wrapper (17) is stronger than the connection between the protective flap (26) and the adhesive fastening means on the attachment flap (22), and remains in place even after the package (30) is opened.

Abstract: An absorbent product such as a sanitary napkin, a diaper, an incontinence pad or similar article, includes an absorbent body having an absorbent layer presenting a first surface and an opposite second surface. A first material layer is arranged in contact with the first surface of the absorbent layer. A second material layer is arranged in contact with the second surface of the absorbent layer. There is at least one bend indication in the form of a through slit or an elongated opening arranged in the absorbent layer. One of the surfaces of the absorbent layer is mutually joined with the material layer in contact therewith, within a region immediately surrounding the bend indication, on both sides thereof. The absorbent layer's opposite surface in this region is not joined to the material layer in contact therewith.

Date May 26, 1994A method for the manufacturing of an absorbent structure in an absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin, tampon, panty protector, wound or sore dressing and like articles is produced by using absorbent material in roll form directly in the product without first defibrating the material and then forming a mat. The material possesses good dispersion properties and swelling properties, which are meaningful to the function of the product. A high surface dryness is obtained, among other things. In addition to cellulose fibers, the absorbent structure may also include superabsorbent material and/or binding fibers, among other ingredients. The pulp mat is very thin, therewith obviating the need to compress the mat further in the product. In the case of certain product applications, the material is softened mechanically prior to its use as an absorbent material.

Abstract: An absorbent article such as a diaper or an incontinence protector, comprising at least one liquid storage region (2, 3) with high absorption capacity and at least one wicking layer (4) which overlaps at least a substantial part of the liquid storage region and which has greater liquid dispersion ability than the storage region. The wicking layer (4) is intended to disperse liquid collected locally in the article over the liquid storage region (2, 3). The aim of the invention is to improve liquid dispersion in absorbent articles. The invention is characterized in that liquid-impermeable portions (5, 6) are arranged at separate places in the article along sections of overlapping parts of the wicking layer (4) and the liquid storage region (2, 3) in order to prevent the transfer of liquid over said parts from the wicking layer to the storage region. The liquid impermeable portions (5, 6) are placed in such a way that liquid from at least one initial accumulation place in connection with wetting of the article is first dispersed in the wicking layer (4) along said portions separated from the liquid storage region (2, 3) and thereafter is dispersed further in the liquid storage region at a distance from said accumulation place.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device and a method for producing a material laminate (1) by fixing pieces of material (2) at a given distance from one another on a first continuously advanced material web (4). The invention is characterized in that the pieces of material (2) are cut from a second continuous web (7) in a first station (3) and are conveyed via a transport device (10) to the first web (4), to which the piece of material (2) is attached by means of ultrasonic welding over a limited attachment area (5) on the pieces of material (2), and the pieces of material (2) are subsequently fixed to the material web (4) by ultrasonic welding in a second station (6). The second station comprises an ultrasonic horn (18) at a fixed distance from a stay (19) designed as a rotating drum with a patterned outer surface.
