    Abstract: A plurality of slant faces (1419) are formed on a substrate (1406). A polarized optical thin film is formed on the slant faces. The recess defined by the slant faces (1419) is filled with transparent material to form a small composite polarizing element. By this polarizing element, it is possible to detect magneto-optic signals excellent in transmissivity and extinction ratio and high in S/N ratio. Also, this polarizing element serves as the cover of the package (1408) of an optical head which houses a photodetecting element (1409) and a light emitting element (1411) integrally. Also, by use of an optical element having an optical path length adjustment function of varying the optical path length of the outgoing light beam from that of the incoming light beam, it is possible to eliminate the initial offset of the focal point error signals and to omit the adjustment at the same time. In this way, a small, simple and high-performance optical head used for magneto-optic recording and reproducing apparatus can be realized.

    Abstract: A magneto-optical signal read-out system for a magneto-optical player in which the polarized plane of linearly polarized incident light is rotated when the incident light is reflected by or passes through a magneto-optical medium having tracks thereon and the rotation angle of the polarized plane is utilized as an information signal. The read-out system includes a first analyzer, a second analyzer and a photo detector divided into first and second photo detector sections. A differential amplifier receives output signals from the first and second photo detector sections and produces a detected signal representative of the difference between the first and second output signals to reduce in-phase noise in the detected signal.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a small optical writing head, such as an organic EL array exposure head, having long work distance with little crosstalk, a method of manufacturing the same, and an image forming apparatus using the same. The optical writing head is an optical writing head which projects fluxes of modulated light from light-emitting parts 2 of a light-emitting element array such as an organic EL array or fluxes of modulated light transmitted through shutter parts 2 of an optical shutter element array onto an image carrier 11 to form a predetermined pattern on the image carrier 11.     Abstract: A laser beam emitted from the laser emission unit (20) is emitted through an objective lens (12) and focused on an optical medium. A reflected beam from the optical medium is returned through the objective lens and a diffraction grating (11) to a signal detection circuit (34) in the laser emission unit. Hitherto, many operating functions have been provided in the optical head (1). However, the present invention provides the laser emission unit in a lens holder (10) and with a plurality functions in the emission unit itself and so the space in the optical head can be reduced. Moreover, the space for the light path both emitted and received is also decreased. Thus, the size of the optical head is extremely reduced and since the optical head can be assembled by a smaller number of parts, the production costs can be decreased.
