The light source is composed of a plurality of light emitting element units. Each of light emitting element units is composed of at least one red light emitting element for emitting red light, at least one green light emitting element for emitting green light and at least one blue light emitting element for emitting blue light. The centroid of luminance profiles based on a plurality of red light emitting elements in each of planar light source units, that of luminance profiles based on a plurality of green light emitting elements, and that of luminance profiles based on a plurality of blue light emitting elements almost match respectively that of the corresponding planar light source unit. Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a drive system for a plasma address display panel capable of preventing its adverse effect even when an omissive position exists on a partition parting discharge channels. CONSTITUTION: A flat panel 1 is provided with a laminated structure alternately superposing a plasma cell having plural discharge channels 5 individually parted by the partitions along the line in the horizontal direction and a liquid crystal cell having signal electrodes 4 orthogonally intersecting with the discharge channels 5. A scan circuit 2 discharge drives the discharge channels 5 successively selectively to scan respective lines. A signal circuit 3 applies an image signal to the signal electrodes 4 synchronizing with the line scan to write in respective lines. When the omissive position exists on the partition parting a pair of discharge channels 5 adjacent each other, the signal circuit 3 writes the image signal of the same polarity in two lines along a pair of relevant discharge channels 5, and writes the image signal of an opposite polarity alternately in other lines. The scan circuit 2 performs a replacement scan of lines in the position of a pair of relevant discharge channels 5 so that the polarity of the image signal applied to the signal electrodes is inverted regularly and positive/ negative alternately along a time base.
