    Abstract: PURPOSE:To clearly confirm the exterior above a virtual image and to obtain a device which is extremely light in weight by reducing a difference between the angle of visual field in the case of viewing the virtual image and external light transmissivity on the periphery. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a display means 1 for displaying an image fetched from the outside, a holographic combiner 12 which magnifies the image so as to display the virtual image, a light shielding means 6 arranged between the display position of the virtual image 5 and the holographic combiner 12, and polarizing means 10a and 11a provided in relation to the light shielding means 6. The polarizing means 10a and 11a are arranged so that the areas thereof are extended to cover the angle of visual field in the case of viewing the virtual image 5. The image projected on the display 1 for view finder is magnified by the holographic combiner 12 and displayed as the virtual image 5 ahead of an eyeball 7. By electrically closing a liquid crystal shutter 6 and the polarizing filters 10a and 11a, the external light 9 is intercepted and the virtual image 5 is clearly viewed. By opening the shutter 6 and the filters 10a and 11a, the external light 8 is clearly confirmed, and then both of the virtual image and the exterior are confirmed by making the display 1 emit light.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obviate the erasing of a virtual image even if an outside scene is extremely bright so as to allow the expression of the opaque virtual image and to allow the pure color expression without being affected by the background color by synthesizing the output of a display section and the output of a shielding means thereby forming the virtual image. CONSTITUTION:This optical device has an objective lens 14 which takes in the light form the outside scene, an eyepiece lens 18 which obtains the synthesized virtual image, a light shielding means 15 which shields the transmission of the light of generated image signal through the part corresponding to the image and the display section 17 which displays the image so as not to emit the light except in the part corresponding to the image. The output of the display section 17 and the output of the shielding means 15 and synthesized to form the virtual image 33. The displaying of the virtual image of the shadow in the outside scene is executed in this way and since the opaque virtual image can be displayed, the pure color expression without being affected by the background color is possible. The expression of a black color which is heretofore impossible with a head up display is possible as well. The virtual image does not disappear even if there is a bright object, such as illumination, in the background.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a head mounted display device, by which a user does not feel a troublesomeness at the time of viewing an image and the deterioration of a liquid crystal layer in a liquid crystal shutter hardly occurs. CONSTITUTION: A clock signal generated in a crystal oscillation circuit 21 is set to a frequency by which a flicker is not felt in a counter circuit 22. Control signals set in a volume 24 and a DC bias setting circuit 26 are transmitted to a non-inversion amplification computing element 30 and an inversion amplification computing element 31 through a buffer 27 and a signal line 29. A DC part of non-inversion output which is operation-processed in the non-inversion amplification computing element 30 is removed by a DC bias cut circuit 34a. The DC part of inversion output which is operation-processed in the inversion amplification computing element 31 is similarly removed by a DC bias cut circuit 34b, and output is impressed on the impression terminal 36 or 37 of the liquid crystal shutter 5.

Moreover, it is enlarged by a lens for a right eye 29 and reflected on a beam splitter 24 arranged being inclined by 45 deg. with respect to the center axis 26 of the video light and bent by 90 deg.. Then, it is guided to the right eye 31. On the other hand, the light transmitted through the splitter 27 is reflected on a mirror 32 and bent by 90 deg.. Besides, it is advanced toward a mirror 33, reflected on it and bent by 90 deg.. Moreover, it is enlarged by a lens for the left eye 34 and the virtual image thereof is reflected on the splitter 24 and bent by 90 deg.. Then, it is guided to the left eye 35. Thus, the image quality of videos made incident on both left and right eyes 35 and 31 can be made entirely identical.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an optical visual device by which a clear video is viewed even under bright environment especially by using a dimmer means whose transmissivity is varied. CONSTITUTION:This device is constituted so that a surrounding landscape and the video reflected on a pair of small-sized displays 11 and 11 are opticaily superimposed to be viewed through an optical system 10 constituted of a pair of reflection mirrors 12 and 12, a pair of oculars 13 and 13, and a polarizing beam splitter 14. A dimming shutter 15 whose transmissivity is varied is installed in front of the splitter 14. For example, an electrochromic element is used as the shutter 15, and the transmissivity is freely varied by electrochemical oxidation-reduction reaction. Thus, the clear video is always viewed even under the bright or dark environment by changing the transmissivity of the shutter 15.
