    SOLUTION: This liquid residue detection device comprises an ink tank 1 containing a conductive ink 6, and an ink detection circuit 5 for detecting the quantity of the ink 6 stored in the ink tank 1. A rubber plate 15 to be connected with an electrode device 4 connected to the ink detection circuit 5 is arranged on the circumferential wall part of the ink tank 1. The ink detection circuit 5 has the electrode means 4 having a plurality of electrode needles 17 capable of making contact with the internal ink 6 through the rubber member 15 arranged on the ink tank 1 as a detecting member. The residual quantity of the ink 6 in the ink tank 1 can be detected based on the current-carrying state between predetermined electrode needles 17 in the application of a voltage to the electrode needles 17 of the electrode means 4.

Since the head moving means and the pushing-up means are driven by one drive means, the number of motors is reduced by half and the load of a control circuit is reduced.
