    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the forming process of a case body and to permit the formation of a cover part and the punching of a vent by using the same process and to facilitate production by providing the vent to the cover part allowing simple formation compared with the case body. CONSTITUTION:A vent 16 for filling an electrolyte is provided in an appropriate position of a cover part 14 for sealing the upper opening of a square case body 12. A sealing steel ball 18 is welded for sealing. The vent 16 is provided in the bottom part of a truncated cone-like recessed part formed on the cover part 14. In fabricating a sealed cylindrical battery 10, the upper opening of the body 12 housing electrode materials is covered with the cover part 14. Laser seam welding 24 is applied to the peripheral edge of the cover part 14 with the body 12 standed to fix the cover part 14 to the body 12. Next, the electrolyte is filled from the vent 16 with the body 12 retained under the same standing posture. The steel ball 18 having the diameter slightly larger than the aperture of the vent 16 is abutted to the vent 16. The ball 18 is welded by using the welding method such as resistance welding, etc., to seal the vent 16. Thus processes are simplified to enhance the productivity of battery fabrication work.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To coat only on predetermined areas with a prescribed thickness without stopping a coating apparatus, by attaching a second member which can be brought into contact with or spaced apart from a first member facing an object to be coated by a prescribed distance. CONSTITUTION:With a coating material 37 being stored in a storage part 34 and while an object 21 to be coated is sent out at a constant speed in the direction (A), a shutter member 32 is slid in the direction (B) so as to separate the shutter member 32 and a doctor blade 25 from each other and supply the coating material on the object to be coated 21 through the gap between the shutter member 32 and doctor blade 25 from the storage part 34 and at the same time the coating material 37 is scratched with the doctor blade so as to coat in a prescribed thickness. Then, in non-coating areas, the shutter member 32 is slid to the direction (A) to come into contact with the doctor blade 25 and stop supplying the coating material 37 to the object 21 to be coated so as to not coat the coating material 37. This apparatus is suitable for preparation of cathode plates of lithium manganese batteries.

The negative electrode lead 11 for connecting the negative electrode 1 to the battery can 5 is formed by coating copper with a nickel film, and its Vickers hardness is 80 to 100. Elongation of the negative electrode lead 11 is 4-20%. The thickness of the nickel film is 1-5 μm. The copper for the negative electrode lead is obtained by rolling a round copper wire to form it into a straight angle wire and by heat-treating it. The nickel film is formed by a plating method.

It maintains a certainly seal effect by the elastomer and prohibits a shape change according to the ring 8P by the elastomer under high temperature of the elastomer.
