Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity by surely connecting the terminal of a memory medium and a connecting terminal and simplifying constitution. SOLUTION: This device has a recording and reproducing mechanism 18 having an optical pickup 41 for recording and reproducing information to and from an optical disk 5 and a disk rotational driving mechanism 17 for rotationally driving the optical disk 5. The device has a loading recessed part 21 which is loaded with the optical disk 5 and a disk tray 15 disposed movably to an attaching and detaching position where the optical disk 5 is made attachable and detachable to and from the loading recessed part and a recording and reproducing position where the recording and reproducing of the information to and from the optical disk 5 are made possible. The disk tray 15 has the connecting terminal 32 to be electrically connected to the terminal of a 'Memory Stick 6 (R)' and a memory fitting section 31 which is attachably and detachably fitted with the 'Memory Stick (R)' is disposed on the disk tray.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording medium which has time information of an existing recording medium as well as an address expressed in a binary number and is adaptive to high capacity. SOLUTION: The time information that is expressed in a BCD as a Q channel of a subcode is recorded in an existing CD-ROM and also recorded in a header included in data (Fig. 10A). To that end, a 24-bit address expression part is used. An address expressed in a binary number is recorded at the address expression part included in the header in place of the time information on the BCD (Fig. 10B). Thus, a larger number of addresses can be expressed in comparison with the BCD address expression so as to cope with increase of the disk capacity. In addition, the time of an existing player, etc., can be displayed since the time information is recorded as a subcode.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with high capacity by performing the binary expression of an address. SOLUTION: A wobbling groove is previously formed on an optical disk and an address is recorded as the wobble information on the wobbling groove. In regard to an existing optical disk, the address of a minute/second frame is expressed in a BCD (Fig. 4A). To that end, a 24-bit address expression part is used, and an address of binary expression is recorded at the address expression part (Fig 4B). Thus, a larger number of addresses can be expressed in comparison with the BCD address expression so as to cope with increase of the disk capacity. Then a disk of high density can be discriminated from an existing disk by means of a single specific bit such as an MSB of the address expression part or plural bits or in accordance with the changing way of an address.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the efficient operation by making one side a selective state in accordance with the operating system in a state of being not discriminated whether the loaded disk is the one in a 1st class or in a 2nd class. SOLUTION: A discriminating signal producing circuit 27 is provided for discriminating the class of the disk D, and the discrimination is made by a system controller 30 whether the disk D is a CD 100 or DVD 120 in accordance with the discriminating signal DD from the discriminating signal producing circuit 27. By an objective lens 2a on a CD pickup 1a, amplitudes obtained on the disk signal surface of a pull-in signal PI and the surface of disk are detected with the focus servo operation while performing the forced movement. The efficient operation is attained in such a manner that the class of the disk is obtained by measuring the times of both amplitudes and one side is made to the selective state in accordance with the operating system.
