Abstract: The invention pertains to layered bodies used to absorb water and aqueous fluids and made from at least one water-soluble polymer foam layer and particulate superabsorbent polymers in a 1:500 to 50:1 ratio of polymer foam to superabsorber, the superabsorber being arranged on, within or under the polymer layer in a quantitatively and/or positionally predetermined and set areal arrangement. The polymer foam may contain fillers, pigments and/or synthetic fibers. The layered bodies have increased power to absorb water and aqueous fluids, especially under load. They are produced by spreading the foam in a sheet, applying the superabsorber in the prescribed ratio, optionally using a mask, and fixing it by heat treatment. Such layered bodies are used in hygienic products, as components in natural or artificial soils, as insulating material for pipes and lines, especially cables, and building units, as liquidabsorbing and -retaining components in packing materials and incorporated in clothing.

Abstract: The laminar bodies of this type are used in hygiene products, as components in natural or artificial soils, as insulation material in pipes and conductors, basically cables, in civil structures and as an absorption and liquid conserving component in packaging mateirals or in clothing elements. They have increased absorption capability to water and aqueous solutions, in particular under loading. The laminar bodies consists of at least one layer of polymer foam and superabsorption polymerisate in bulk form for the absorption of water or aqueous solutions which on, between or under the foamed polymer layer contain the superabsorber evenly distributed and/or in a different preset manner, in quantitative ratio of the polymer foam to absorber of 1:500 to 50:1. The polymer foam can contain fillers, pigments and/or synthetic fibres. Abstract: The absorption structure having a flat form for water and aqueous solutions is used as hygiene products, components in natural or artificial soils, as insulation material for pipes and conductors, above all for cables and building structures, as an absorption and liquid retention agent for packaging materials, as clothing elements and as a tank for controlled release of an active substance.
