Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the thin-film magnetic head having a large reproduced output by forming a lower magnetic film of a soft magnetic thin film consisting of a crystalline alloy having a saturation magnetic flux density of a prescribed value and forming upper magnetic films of soft magnetic thin films consisting of amorphous alloys of a Co system. CONSTITUTION:The lower magnetic film 3, coil conductors 6, 8, the upper magnetic films 10, 12 are successively formed via an insulating film 7 on a substrate 1. The lower magnetic film 3 is the soft magnetic thin film consisting of the crystalline alloy, such as, for example, Fe-Ga-Si-Ru or Fe-Al-Si alloy, having >=900 gauss saturation magnetic flux density. The upper magnetic films 10, 12 are formed of the soft magnetic thin films consisting of the amorphous alloys of the C system. These alloys have >=9000 gauss saturation magnetic flux density which is larger as compared with 8800 gauss saturation magnetic flux density of the Fe-Ni alloy and, therefore, the magnetic characteristics of the magnetic thin films are improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To avert the damage on a magneto-resistance effect magneto-sensitive part of the surface of a magnetic head slider in contact with or opposite to a magnetic recording medium by static electricity by depositing a conductive layer on at least a part exclusive of the magneto-resistance effect magneto- sensitive part or the part where the electrodes thereof verge and maintaining this layer at a grounding potential. CONSTITUTION:The grounded conductive layer 21 is disposed on the surface (ABS surface) 14 in contact with or opposite to the magnetic recording medium. Then, the current passage 22 of the conductive layer 21 having the resistance smaller than the resistance of the magneto-resistance effect magneto-sensitive part (MR magneto-sensitive part) exists in parallel with the grounding potential VSS and, therefore, the discharge current does not flow to the MR magneto- sensitive part 3 and flows through the passage 22 of the conductive layer 21 when the magnetic recording medium is in an electrified state and if the discharge tends to be generated with this medium and the magnetic head H. Such an accident that the MR magneto-sensitive part is burned is averted in this way.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To suppress the irregularity of individual products to be obliquely ground, to detect the end point and to automate it by detecting a grinding amount of a substrate by the resistance value of a resistor provided at the side edge position from the heat generating resistor forming position of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:A grinding end point detecting pattern 3 is disposed on the main surface 1a of a substrate, formed as a strip resistor having a predetermined width between a heat generating resistor 2 and the side edge 1c of the substrate, and formed substantially in a U-shape as a whole. A conductor 3a is connected to an external resistance measuring unit to measure the resistance value of the pattern 3 which is varied when the substrate 1 is obliquely ground. Accordingly, the resistance of the pattern 3 is measured, and the grinding is stopped at a position where a predetermined resistance value is designated, thus effectively controlling the thickness of the substrate to the predetermined desired thickness of the substrate. The relationship among the grinding amount, the grinding angle and the resistance value is accurately grasped to automate the oblique grinding.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a soft magnetic thin film having good soft magnetic characteristic, high saturation magnetic flux, excellent friction proof characteristic and recording/reading characteristic by adding at least a kind of element selected from Mn, Cr, V, Ru and Ni to Fe-Co-Si based alloy. CONSTITUTION:Composition is formed by Co of 9-15 atom%, Si of 19-23 atom%, at least a kind of element selected from Mn, Cr, V, Ru, Ni of 0.5-6.0 atom% and remainder of Fe. Even when contents of Co and Si included are under 9, 19 atom% or larger than 15, 23 atom%, the coercive force of soft magnetic thin film obtained exceeds 2.0 Oe and it can no longer be used as the core material of magnetic head. If content of Si included becomes too much, saturation magnetic flux density is lowered. It amount of a kind of element to be added to the basic alloy is less than 0.5 atom%, the wanted improvement effect for friction proof characteristic cannot be obtained and if it is larger than 6.0 atom%, magnetic characteristic may be deteriorated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve saturation magnetic flux density to a greater extent and to permit narrowing of a gap by using thin soft magnetic Fe-Ga-Si films for thin magnetic films to constitute a magnetic circuit. CONSTITUTION:At least either of the lower magnetic film 11 and upper magnetic film 8 of a thin film magnetic head formed by laminating the lower magnetic film 11, coil conductors 3, 6 and the upper magnetic film 8 via insulating films 2, 4, 7 on a substrate 1 is formed of the thin soft magnetic Fe-Ga-Si film. The thin soft magnetic Fe-Ga-Si film substantially prevents the generation of head satn. and permits the consequent narrowing of the head gap as said film has about 1,300 gauss saturation magnetic flux density larger than the saturation magnetic flux density (1,100 gauss) of an Fe-Al-Si alloy. The coefft. of thermal expansion thereof is about 130X10 / deg.C and is fairly approximate to the coefft. of thermal expansion (115-120X10 / deg.C) of the substrate (Mn-Zn ferrite); therefore, the generation of warpage in the substrate in the process of forming the head is obviated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the soft magnetic thin film having high saturation magnetic flux density Bs and high permeability mu and especially sperior abrasion resistance property by specifying the composition of a soft magnetic thin film formed of an alloy of Fe-Co-Si-Al group added with Cr. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic thin film mainly composed of Fe, Co, Si and Al is added with chrominum Cr. Namely, Fe, Co, Si and Alare main components and the composition is as 5-15atm% Co, 6-17atm% Si, 2-13atm% Al, 0.5-7atm% N, and Fe as the remainder. If the content of Co is beyond the range of 5-15atm%, an increase of a coersive force or a decline of permeability can be observed. Also, 6-17atm% of Si and 2-13atm% of Al are necessary. If the contents of Si and Al are beyond such ranges, for example, a coersive force increases so that they can not be used as a core material of a magnetic head, and at the same time, a lowering of a saturation magnetic flux density or permeability can be observed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled soft magnetic thin film having a high permeability, an excellent corrosion-resisting property, an excellent abrasion-resisting property of high degree of hardness, and thermal stability without lowering the density of saturated magnetic flux and without increasing magnetic coercive force by a method wherein nitrogen N is added to the magnetic thin film having Fe, Co and Si as the main components, and the composition of compound of said magnetic thin film is specified. CONSTITUTION:The titled magnetic thin film has Fe, Co and Si as main composition, it is composed of Co of 5-15atom%, Si of 17-23atom%, N of 0.01-5atom%, and the remainder of Fe, and excellent serviceability is given to the magnetic thin film. If the content of nitrogen N is 0.01atom% or less, sufficient effect can not be expected, and if said content exceeds 5atom%, the permeability of the magnetic thin film is lowered on the contrary, and there is a possibility of increasing magnetic coercive force. It is desirable that the magnetically soft thin film is manufactured by performing a vapor-deposition method, an ion-implanting method and the like. Also, pertaining to the introduction of nitrogen N on the magnetic thin film, there are method such as one wherein a vapor-deposition and the like to be performed in the atmosphere containing nitrogen gas, and the method wherein nitrogen N is introduced into the magnetic thin film using a compound consisting of nitrogen N and at least a kind of element selected from the above-mentioned components and the alloy of the remaining component as the source of evaporation.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a soft magnetic thin film having high saturated magnetic flux density and superior anti-corrosiveness, by selecting Fe, Co, Si as constituent elements of the soft magnetic thin film and setting up the composition ratio of them within a specific limited composition range. CONSTITUTION:The composition comprises Co 9-15atom%, Si 19-23atom%, and Fe as the remaining part. When the Si content becomes less than 19atom% or larger than 23atom%, a coercitive force of a produced soft magnetic thin film becomes more than 2.0 Oersteds. Particularly, with the composition range being made Si 20-21.5atom% and Co 11-13.5atom%, the coercitive force can be attained to less than 0.7 Oersted, to make magnetostriction curves crossed with each other. Moreover, because the too large Si content causes a saturated magnetic flux density to be lowered, the Si content should be preferably restricted to the degree of 23atom%.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the thin film whose composition is expressed by FeaGabSic and which has the soft magnetic characteristic of the same degree as Sendust alloy and the remarkably high saturated magnetic flux density by specifying a range of the above composition. CONSTITUTION:The composition is expressed by FeaGabSic (wherein a.b. and c show the composition rate by atm%) and a range of this composition is the range of formula. For example, Fe, Ga and Si are weighed so as to meet the predetermined composition rate and these are fused and cast by use of a high-frequency induction heating furnace. After that, by mechanical process, these are made into the alloy target for sputtering of 4 inches diameter and 4mm thickness. Sputtering is done by using this alloy target and a high-frequency magnetron sputtering device so that a thin film on a crystallized glass substrate is obtained. Furthermore, this thin film is annealed to be cooled gradually and a soft magnetic thin film is obtained. This can meet the enhancement of the coersive force of a magnetic recording medium sufficiently and it becomes possible to contrive the high quality and high recording density.
