Abstract: 19,334. Thomas, J. Sept. 2. Refuse-destroying stoves; closed solid-fuel stoves; air supply, regulating.-A destructor furnace or stove of the kind described in Specification 24,923/13 is provided with a vertically sliding door controlling the admission of air and access to the ashpit and to the grate operated by the action of opening and closing the charging-door at the top of the furnace, the two doors being so interconnected that the door controlling the air admission and access to the ash-pit and grate may be opened beyond its normal extent independently of the charging-door when it is desired to rake out the fire-chamber. As shown in Fig. 2, the charging-door 22 is mounted on horizontal hinge pins 23 and is provided with projections 24 which, when the door is closed, bear against the upper arms 25 of bellcranks mounted on a spindle 26. The lower arm 28 of the bell-crank is connected to a rod 30 engaging in a telescopic manner with the vertically sliding door 31 controlling admission of air and access to the ash-pit 7 and grate 6. Normally the door 31 is held open a short distance by a lug 33 on the rod 30 engaging a bridge piece 34 on the door to allow sufficient air for combustion to pass to the fire-bars. The bell-crank arms 25, 28 may be adjusted in position on the spindle 26 to vary the extent of opening of the door 31 or the rod 30 or other parts may be made adjustable in length for the same purpose. When the charging- door is opened, the door 31 falls by gravity to its closed position. The telescopic or sliding connexion between the rod 30 and door 31 permits the door to be raised above its normal position to obtain access to the grate. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which an horizontally sliding charging- door 36 is adapted to engage one arm 43 of a bell-crank lever, the other arm 41 being pivoted to the rod 30 connected to the door 31 as previously described. As the door 36 is moved to the right, the air-supply door is lowered and vice versa. The furnace or stove shown in Fig. 2 has an outer-air cooling jacket 13 communicating with the atmosphere at top and bottom. Gas-rings 11, 12 for supplying gas to the refuse and combustion products, and a baffle 16 to deflect the hot air rising from the space between the casing 5 and tubular cage 10 are also provided as described in Specification 24,923/13.

Abstract: 23,081. Thomas, J. Oct. 13. Bogies.-The vehicle body is suspended upon bogies in such a way that it is maintained horizontal while swing- ing from side to side. The bolster is supported on springs f carried on a spring plank d, which is suspended by links e from bell - cranks b pivoted in eye-bolts c on the bogie frame a. There is a pair of such bellcranks and links at each end of the spring plank. The longer arms of the bell-cranks b bear against abutments d on the spring plank d, or are connected to the spring plank by pins and slots. The links e and the shorter arms of the bell-cranks at one side of the vehicle are inclined in opposite directions to those at the other side. As an alternative arrangement, the bell-cranks may be pivoted on the spring plank d, one of their arms being linked to the bogie frame while the other bears against an abutment upon that frame.
