    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially stretched polyester film having excellent dimensional stability and high rigidity and suitable as the base of a high density magnetic recording tape especially hard to generate a dimensional change under a use environment. SOLUTION: The biaxially stretched polyester film comprises a polyester and a polyimide and is characterized in that a melting point (Tm) and a minute heat absorption peak temperature (Tmeta) due to a differential scanning calorimeter is Tmeta=(Tm-60 deg.C)-(Tm-100 deg.C) and at least one of a ratio R1 M(=IMD/I55 ) of the Raman peak intensity (IMD) in the longitudinal direction of the film and the Raman peak intensity (I55 ) in the direction of 55 deg. with respect to the surface of the film at 1780 cm in a laser Raman scattering method and a ratio R1 T(=ITD/I55 ) of the Raman peak intensity (ITD) in the width direction of the film and the Raman peak intensity (I55 ) in the direction of 55 deg. with respect to the surface of the film is 2.5-20.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film having high strength, excellent in heat shrinkage balance in both of MD and TD directions, having high output and generating no deformation or damage of a tape edge even if used as a base film for a high density magnetic recording tape, excellent in running durability, improved in the track shift of magnetic recording and excellent as a base film for a high density magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: A biaxially oriented polyester film contains polyester and polyetherimide and is characterized by that the Young's modulus in the lateral direction of the film (YmTD) measured at an initial strain speed of 0.1 mm/ mm.min is 6GPa or more and the ratio (MD/TD) of the coefficient of thermal shrinkage at temp. of 100 deg.C in the longitudinal direction (MD) and lateral direction (TD) of the film is 0.8-1.2.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the dimensional stability and long-term storage stability of a magnetic recording medium by setting the ratio Ym1/Ym20 of the Young's modulus Ym1 measured at a specific initial strain speed and the Young's modulus Ym20 measured at other specific initial strain speed to a specific range. SOLUTION: The ratio of Ym1/Ym20 of the Young's modulus Ym1 measured at an initial strain speed of 0.1 mm/mm.min and the Young's modulus Ym20 measured at an initial strain speed of 2 mm/mm.min is 0.85-1.1 in both of the longitudinal and lateral directions of a film. The creep compliance of the film after the elapse of 30 min under a condition of temp. 50 deg.C and load 28 MPa is 1.11-0.35 GPa-1 in both of the longitudinal and lateral directions of the film. The heat shrinkage factor in the lateral direction of the film at 100 deg.C for 30 min is below 0.3%. From these test results, the film is pref. from a viewpoint of heat resistance, chemical resistance, durability or the like.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film enhanced in Young's modulus, low in surface roughness, reduced in thickness irregularity and reduced in surface damage. SOLUTION: A biaxially oriented polyester film is characterized by that the Young's modulus in the longitudinal and lateral directions thereof is 5.8 GPa or more, the surface roughness (Ra) of at least the single surface thereof is 2-15 nm and the number of coarse surface damages with a length of 2 mm or more thereof is 20 pieces/m2 or less. Further, the number of fine surface damages with a height of 0.81 μm or more of the film is preferably 10 pieces/100 cm2 or less.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To have high strengths lengthwise and widthwise and realize a favorable frictional resistance and slipperiness by a method wherein the lengthwise Young's modulus of a film and the ratio of the lengthwise static friction coefficient of the film to its widthwise static friction coefficient are set to have specified values. SOLUTION: The lengthwise Young's modulus of a film is set to be 5-10 GPa. The ratio of the lengthwise static friction coefficient of the film to its widthwise static friction coefficient μsMD/μsTD is set to be 1.05-1.25. In order to realize respective desired surface roughnesses on respective surfaces, a lamination structure consisting of two layers or more is employed under the condition that the surface roughnesses of the respective surfaces are respectively set to be 0.008 μm or more and 0.005 μm or less in order to preferably reconcile the outputting characteristics and slipperiness of the film used for a magnetic tape. As the polyester film, a polyethylene terephthalate, a polybutylene naphthalate, a polybutylene terephthalate, a polyethylene naphthalate and their copolymer or the like is preferable. These repeating units of 100 or more and intrinsic viscosities of 0.6 dl/g or more are preferable.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film high in Young's modulus, capable of improving thermal stretching start temp. to environmental temp. at the time of recording/ regeneration of a magnetic tape or higher, low in creep compliance at 50 deg.C, becoming hard to generate recorded track shift in a case used as a tape for high density magnetic recording and excellent as a base film for a magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: A biaxially oriented polyester film is characterized by that the Young's modulus in longitudinal and lateral directions is 5.8 Gpa or more and creep compliance after the elapse of 30 min under the condition of a temp. of 50 deg.C and a load of 28 MPa is 0.11-0.35 GPa and produced by biaxially stretching an unstretched film within an area stretching magnification ratio range of 17-170 times and thermally fixing the stretched film within a temp. range of (melting temp. of polyester Tm-70) deg.C-(Tm-30) deg.C heat-treating the fixed film at 40-180 deg.C for 2 sec-7 days.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject film having high stiffness and high quality by adding a specific amount of a specified carboxyl end-cross-linking agent for connecting the carboxy ends of a polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate. SOLUTION: This film has 6-20 GPa Young modulus in at least one direction selected from the longitudinal direction and the width direction of the film, and 0.3-2 kg/mm tear propagation resistance. Further, the film preferably has 1-50 eq./ton carboxyl end amount and 0.6-1.5 intrinsic viscosity. The film is obtained by drying a raw material obtained by adding and mixing master chips of the polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate containing 10 wt.% polymerized carbodiimide as a carboxyl end-cross-linking agent with the raw material chips of the polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate, charging the dried raw material with the master chips to a single screw or twin screw extruder so as not to decreasing the intrinsic viscosity and forming the charged material into a membrane.
