Abstract: Yarn ball-forming containers with curved inner surfaces are moved to be presented in succession to a tubular guide for yarn lengths separated from a supply by a feed system and a cutter mechanism. Air jet nozzles form yarn balls in respective containers, for subsequent removal by an air ejector mechanism connected to a conveyor. The ball-forming containers are specif. perforated, and the air jets which form the balls are heated to yarn-fusing temperatures so that the balls are form-stable. Economic filter balls may thus be obtd. for quilts, cushions, sleeping bags, garments, esp. of wholly or partly synthetic filamentary yarns such as polyesters.
