    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an organometallic copolymer which can provide molded products such as fibers, films, etc., excellent in mechanical strength, oxidation resistance at high temperatures, by reacting a specific polycarbosilane with polyzirconosiloxane. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbosilane, number-average MW about 500-10,000, having a main chain skeleton composed of structural units of the formula, wherein the silicon atom carries two side chain groups such as H, lower alkyls or phenyl is mixed and reacted, with heating, with a polyzirconosiloxane, number-average MW about 500-10,000, having a main chain skeleton composed of zirconosilane units and siloxane units, wherein the ratio of the total number of the zirconosiloxane units to that of siloxane units ranges from 30/1 to 1/30. Thus, the organometallic copolymer of the purpose, number-average MW about 1,000-50,000, is produced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a continuous inorg. fiber having superior characteristics and a specific structure by mixing specified polycarbosilane and polytitanosiloxane and heating the mixture in an org. solvent after which the resulting organometallic copolymer is spun, made infusible, and calcined. CONSTITUTION:Polycarbosilane having about 500-10000 average mol. wt. and the principal chain skeleton of -Si-CH2- and polytitanosiloxane having about 500- 10000 average mol. wt. and the principal chain skeleton of -Ti-O- and -Si-O- in a ratio of 30:1-1:30 are mixed in a ratio of 100:1-1:100 by wt. This mixture is heated in an org. solvent under an inert atmosphere to form an oragnometallic copolymer having 1000-50000 average mol. wt. This copolymer is spun as a spinning soln., made infusible, and calcined to obtain a continuous inorg. fiber consisting practically of Si, Ti and C, or Si, Ti, C and O and having superior mechanical strength, heat resistance and oxidation resistance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:A polyzirconocarbosilane which, when calcined, can form a molding having excellent mechanical properties and oxidation resistance at high temperatures and consisting mainly of SiC-ZrC, derived from a polycarbosilane and an organozirconium compound. CONSTITUTION:The titled polyzirconcarbosilane, number-average MW of 700- 100,000, is obtained which is derived from a polycarbosilane, number-average MW of 200-10,000, consisting mainly of a main chain skeleton of formulaI (wherein R is H, a lower alkyl or phenyl) and an organozirconium compound of the formula ZrX4 (wherein X is a 1-20C alkoxy, phenoxy or acetylacetoxy), and satisfying the following conditions. Said carbosilane is a crosslinked block copolymer in which part of the Si atoms are bonded to the Zr atoms through oxygen atoms (e.g., formula II) and has a ratio of the total number of the Si- CH2 units to that of the Zr-O units of 2:1-200:1.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:An organometallic copolymer capable of forming ZrC-SiC fiber having more excellent mechanical properties and higher oxidation resistance at high temperatures than the conventional ones, wherein the polycarbosilane portion is crosslinked with the polyzirconosilane portion in the midst of a main chain linkage. CONSTITUTION:The titled crosslinked block copolymer is obtained from (A) a polycarbosilane, number-average MW of 500-10,000, having a main chain selecton consisting mainly of formulaI, wherein Si has one or two side groups selected from the group consisting of H, a lower alkyl and a phenyl, and (B) a polyzicronosiloxane, number-average MW of 500-10,000, having a main chain skeleton consisting of randomly bonded units of formulas II and III, wherein total number ratio of formula II/ formula III is 30:1-1:30. The copolymer has a number average MW of 1,000-50,000. Part of the Si atoms of component A are crosslinked with part of the Si and Zr atoms of component B through oxygen atoms. The component A to component B rato is 100:1-1:100.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:Polyzirconocarbosilane derived from polycarbosilane and an organic zirconium compound is made into fiber, which is made infusible and calcined to produce continuous fiber of SiC-ZrC much better than SiC fiber. CONSTITUTION:Polycarbonosilane with a number average molecular weight of 200-10,000 of formulaIand an organic zirconim compound of formula II are mixed so that the ratio of the total number of formula III and IV structural vnits comes into the range 2/1-200/1 and their reaction is effected by heating them in an inert atmosphere to bond at least a part of the silicon atoms in the polycarbonosilane through oxygen atoms to zirconium atoms in the organic zirconium compound and to form polyzirconocarbonsilane with a number-average molecular wieght of 700-100,000. The solution of the product is made into fiber, made infusible and calcined in vacuum or in an inert gas atmosphere at 800- 1,800 deg.C.
