Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyimide excellent in heat resistance, soluble in an organic solvent, and therefore excellent in processability by polymerizing an α,ω-bis(4-aminophthalimide)alkane with an aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydride and imidizing the obtained polyamic acid. SOLUTION: An α,ω-bis(4-aminophthalimide) represented by formula II wherein m is an integer of 2-16 and an aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by formula III are polymerized, and the obtained polyamic acid is imidized to obtain a soluble polyimide having repeating units represented by formula I wherein m is an integer of 2-16. In the production of the polyimide, another diamine, dicarboxylic anhydride, or monoamine may be additionally used in an amount within the scope not detrimental to properties, organic solvent solubility, processability, etc. It is possible that the diamine component of formula II is used in an amount of 0.9-1.1 mol, especially desirably, 0.95-1.05 mol per mol of the tetracarboxylic dianhydride component of formula III.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for polyolefins by bringing a catalyst excellent in low-temperature activity and reaction selectivity into contact with propylene followed by codimerization when conducting codimerization between ethylene and an olefin. CONSTITUTION: This compound is obtained by bringing a catalyst prepared by carrying an alkali metal on a granular carrier composed of an anhydrous potassium compound and carbon (e.g. graphite) into contact with propylene at 130-170 deg.C under a pressure of 20kg/cm G for 2-50h followed by codimerization between ethylene and a >=4C olefin (e.g. 1-butene) under a pressure of normal pressure to 100kg/cm G at 70-120 deg.C in the presence of the above catalyst. The amounts of the alkali metal and the carbon to be used are 1-10wt.% and 0.2-3wt.% based on the whole amount of the catalyst. Propylene treatment of the catalyst prior to the codimerization markedly improves the catalyst activity, thus increasing the space time yield of this compound and enabling reaction at lower temperatures, and also resulting in longer catalyst life.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To selectively separate an organic compound by a pervaporation method by bringing a mixed solution of organic compounds in direct contact with one side of a heat resisting unsymmetrical separation membrane consisting of soluble aromatic polyimide of a specific composition. CONSTITUTION:A heat resisting unsymmetrical separating membrane is formed consisting of the aromatic tetracarboxylic acid component containing not less than 85mol% of an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid selected from biphenyl tetracarboxylate or diphenylether tetracarboxylate and of the aromatic polyamide containing not less than 90mol% of an aromatic diamine compound having 2-3 benzene rings. The organic compound intended for separation is selectively passed through this separation membrane with one side thereof in direct contact with a mixed solution of organic compounds. The organic compound thus permeated is then separated as a vapor.
