Abstract: 1,130,113. Bis-(aminoalkyl) ethers. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 5 April, 1967 [6 April, 1966], No. 15613/67. Heading C2C. Bis [beta - (N,N - dimethylamino)alkyl] ethers are obtained by reacting (A) a beta- (N,N-dimethylamino) alkanol, with (B) a beta- (N,N-dimethylamino) alkyl chloride or acid salt thereof; and (C) an alkali metal hydroxide at an elevated temperature. The reaction may be effected at 20-150‹ C. in an inert liquid diluent. An excess of reactant (A) is suitably employed and the reaction is preferably carried out by adding reactant (B) to a stirred mixture of reactants (A) and (C). In specific examples the preparation of the following compounds is described: bis (2-dimethylaminoethyl) ether, 2 - (N,N - dimethylamino)ethyl 2 - (N,N - dimethylamino) - 1 - methyl ethyl ether and bis[1 - methyl - 2 - (N,N - dimethylamino) ethyl]ether.
