Provided is a filter device for filtering liquid by passing it through one or more filtering media. The filter device comprises a cartridge defining a treatment region filled with said one or more filtering media and has a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet. A locking mechanism may be located within a liquid flow through the cartridge and configured to lock at least one of the liquid inlet and the liquid outlet upon expiration of life time of said at least one filtering medium.

The invention concerns a filtering element provided with a central opening (16) and designed to be assembled with an element of similar type to form a filter, each filtering element (1) comprising two surfaces respectively internal (2) and external (3) to the filter, an internal rim (5) defining the central opening (16) periphery and an external peripheral rim (4) between which is mounted a sieve (6) parallel to said internal (2) and external (3) surfaces, each surface of the element further including radial ribs (72, 73) extending opposite each other between the external (4) and the internal (5) rims to form on the internal (2) and external (3) surfaces angular sectors (21, 31). The invention is characterised in that each of the internal (2) and external (3) surfaces comprises at least sixteen angular sectors (21, 31), each formed by a free portion of the sieve (6) and the ratio of the sieve (6) free surface over the element (1) total surface ranges between 55 % and 68 %.

A microplastic filter (also referred herein as fluid filter) for a washing machine has a filter housing, a first filter screen, a second filter screen, an inlet opening 16, and an outlet opening. The inlet and outlet openings communicate with each other through the first filter screen to define a direction of fluid flow. The first filter chamber has a retentate outlet, is particularly easy to handle if the second filter screen is arranged in a cavity of the filter housing, the inlet and outlet openings communicate with each other through the second filter screen, and the retentate outlet is arranged on a side of the second filter screen that faces the fluid flow.
