Abstract:
There is disclosed a process for the preparation of 1-aminoanthraquinones from 5-nitro-1,4,4a,9a-tetrahydroanthraquinones with a basic reducing agent, which process is carried out under pressure in the temperature range above 100.degree. C. and in an aqueous-organic medium. The process affords very pure 1-aminoanthraquinone, which is, inter alia, an important intermediate.
Abstract:
An inventive blue colorant comprising a chromophore having at least one hydroxy group-terminated polyester chain attached, through a suitable alkylamino linking group (or groups), to the 1- position, the 4- position, or both, of an anthraquinone backbone and having at least one hindering group in a secondary position in relation to said amino linking group is provided. Such colorants exhibit excellent amine/base stability and thermal stability, effective colorations, excellent low extraction rates, high lightfastness levels, particularly when incorporated within certain media and/or on the surface of certain polyurethane substrates, and, most importantly excellent stability in the presence of excess of diisocyanates. The polyester chain or chains can be conveniently tailored to increase the solubility or compatibility in different types of polyurethane resin precursors thereby permitting the introduction of such excellent coloring chromophores within diverse polyurethane media and/or or diverse polyurethane substrates as well as provides a liquid colorant which facilitates handling. Compositions and articles comprising such inventive colorants are provided as well as methods for producing such inventive colorants.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a limited play optical storage medium for data comprises: a reflective layer (8), a control portion comprising an optically transparent polymeric resin and a light absorbing material, wherein the control portion has a light transmission of greater than or equal to about 70% at 650 nm, a curing index of greater than or equal to about 0.1 and a filtration index of greater than or equal to about 2.5, and wherein the light absorbing material has a minimum extinction coefficient (measured in CH2C12 solution) at 600 nm of greater than or equal to 1,500 mol-1 cm-1 L, a maximum extinction coefficient (measured in CH2C12 solution) at 650 nm of less than about 1,000 mol-1 cm-1 L, a ratio of extinction coefficient at 650 nm to 600 nm less than about 0.1, and a reactive layer (9) disposed between the reflective layer (8) and the control portion, wherein the reactive layer (9) is designed to limit the time during which data on the medium (disposed on a side of the reactive layer (9) opposite the control portion), can be accessed after exposure to oxygen.
Abstract:
A thermal transfer recording sheet includes a base material and, on the base material, a yellow-dye layer containing a yellow dye, a magenta-dye layer containing a magenta dye, and a cyan-dye layer containing a cyan dye. The yellow dye and the cyan dye contain compounds having specific structures.
Abstract:
An optical film includes a selective visible light-absorbing layer including at least one dye having a maximum absorption wavelength in a range of about 470 nm to about 510 nm, the selective visible light-absorbing layer having a maximum light transmittance of about 60% or less at the maximum absorption wavelength of the dye and a full width at half maximum of about 50 nm or less.
Abstract:
Aminoanthraquinones are generally useful as dyes and coloring agents. But known methods of synthesizing unsymmetrically substituted 1,4-diaminoanthraquinones are tedious and complex. A simple and efficient method is provided for preparing 1,4-diaminoanthraquinones, particularly unsymmetrically substituted 1,4-diaminoanthraquinones, by means of novel monoamino-monotosyloxy-anthraquinones.
