Abstract:
A shoe incorporated into a swash plate type compressor as a drive force transmitting element intervened between a rotatable swash plate and a reciprocal piston has a first member made of a seizure-resistant material such as ceramic and hard metal, and has a flattened contact face in slidable contact with the swash plate, and a second member made of less seizure-resistant material but easily machined and having a spherical bearing face slidably engaged with the piston, the first and second members being joined together to form a unitary element.
Abstract:
There are disclosed a shoe which is interposed between a swash plate and a piston of a swash plate type compressor and which converts rotary movement of the swash plate into reciprocal movement of the piston, and a method for manufacturing the same. The shoe has a hemispherical part which is in slidable contact with the surface of a piston defining a hemispherical recess, and a flat end face which is in slidable contact with a bottom end face of the swash plate. According to the method of the invention, a columnar element is compressed in the axial direction for plastic deformation in such a manner that one end of the columnar element is deformed along the inner surface of a hemispherical recess of a die while the other end is urged against the flat end surface of another die. A shoe can be easily manufactured with this method, which has a flank between the hemispherical part which is in slidable contact with the surface of the piston defining the hemispherical recess and the bottom end face of the swash plate which is in slidable contact with the swash plate. According to this method, a hole of a predetermined size may alternatively be formed at the end face of a columnar part of the element, and the end face of the columnar part is cut into a conical shape while reducing the diameter of the hole toward the opening side thereof. Still alternatively, the periphery of the end face of the columnar part may be cut into a conical shape and then pressed to form a hemispherical part. A great flow of the material and local exertion of a high load on the element are prevented.

Abstract:
The cylinder and piston of an injection pump which are severely corroded by molten aluminum or the like are made of a composite sintered body containing two or more of the compounds selected from the group consisting of boron carbide, titanium diboride, zirconium diboride and boron nitride, and having excellent corrosion resistant, wear resistant and heat shock properties and high mechanical strength. One or more of the compounds selected from the group consisting of borides of tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten; carbides of silicon, zirconium, tantalum, vanadium, chromium, tungsten and molybdenum; nitrides of titanium, aluminum, silicon and zirconium; and oxides of aluminum and beryllium may be incorporated.
Abstract:
An aqueous phosphoric bonding solution consists essentially of phosphoric acid, a source of magnesium ions, and a leachable corrosion inhibitor. The bonding solution is stable with respect to inorganic metal particles, such as aluminum, which are admixed to the bonding solution for the preparation of a coating slurry. Metal parts coated with the coating compositions have very satisfactory properties such as heat and corrosion resistance.

Abstract:
A germanium containing nickel-based solder having a similar composition to a nickel-based superalloy is provided. As a result of which the proportion of γ′ formed in the solder is reduced. The solder also includes chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, aluminum, and titanium. A component including the solder is also provided.

Abstract:
A composite blade (26) comprises a three-dimensional arrangement of reinforcing fibres (58) and a matrix material (60) infiltrated around the three-dimensional arrangement of woven reinforcing fibres (60). The three-dimensional arrangement of woven reinforcing fibres (58) defines a plurality of cavities (56) within the aerofoil (28). The composite blade (26) comprises an aerofoil portion (38) and a root portion (36). The aerofoil portion (38) comprises a leading edge (44), a trailing edge (46), a concave pressure surface wall (50), a convex suction surface wall (52) and a tip (48). The aerofoil portion (36) comprises a plurality of webs (54) extending between, and being secured to, the concave pressure surface wall (50) and the convex suction surface wall (52) to produce a Warren girder structure. The three-dimensional arrangement of woven reinforcing fibres (58) are arranged to produce the concave pressure surface wall (50), the convex suction surface wall (52) and the plurality of webs (54). The matrix material (60) is an organic resin and the reinforcing fibres (58) comprise carbon fibres.
