Abstract: An ocean-onto-land drought (OTLD) identification and propagation mechanism analysis method includes: identifying a new drought event in a global range with data of a historical data and data of a future test; extracting a 3D space-time cube (STC) of the drought event, quantifying spatiotemporal characteristics of the global OTLD, and searching a landfalling hotspot; projecting an OTLD in a future period in combination with different tests, and detecting an anthropogenic signal in an index change of the OTLD in the historical period and in the future period; and analyzing, with moisture transport during the OTLD as a reference, an occurrence mechanism of the OTLD in the historical period and an intensification mechanism of the OTLD in the future period; and clarifying a primary physical factor during the OTLD, and assessing a synthetic risk of a OTLD-affected region with a machine learning method.

Abstract: A method and a system for monitoring the spraying of sunlight reflecting particles into the stratosphere to address global warming using smartphones are provided herein. The method may include the following steps: spraying, using a plurality of airplanes flying through a plurality of different geographical locations, sunlight reflecting particles, in accordance with a spraying scheme; sampling using sensors of a plurality of smartphones located in a plurality of different geographical locations, a plurality of atmospheric measurements; training, using a computer processor, and based on the plurality of atmospheric measurements, a model configured to predict a trend in a change of temperature in consequence of the spraying of the sunlight reflecting particles; and repeatedly updating the spraying scheme based on the model.

A weather forecasting service is accessed from which expected weather conditions are accessible for the area through the projected time. The expected weather conditions are identified for the location at the projected time. An integrated route map is displayed showing the at least one route and the expected weather conditions for the location at the projected time.

Abstract: A method and system is presented for short to long-term flood forecasting. At the core of the method is a neural network-based flood forecasting model. The method and system performs the steps to implement and use the neural network-based flood forecasting model comprising obtaining historical data from the region, including but not limited to climate and water level data; sampling and structuring the historical data in conjunction with data queried from a GIS (geographic information system) into a dataset; dividing the dataset into pre-processed training and validation partitions; configuring the neural network and training hyperparameters; training the neural network-based flood forecasting model on the pre-processed training partition; performing validation on the neural network-based flood forecasting model with the pre-processed validation partition. Embodiments of the invention are capable of performing flood forecasting over a region in short to long-term time intervals.

Abstract: A computer system and method for improving the accuracy of predictions of the amount of renewable energy, such as solar energy and wind energy, available to an electric utility, and/or refine such predictions, by providing improved integration of meteorological forecasts. Coefficient values are calculated for a renewable energy generation model by performing a regression analysis with the forecasted level of renewable energy posted by the utility, forecasted weather conditions and measures of seasonality as explanatory variables. Accuracy is further enhanced through the inclusion of a large number of time series variables that reflect the systematic nature of the energy/weather system. The model also uses the original forecast posted by the system operator as well as variables to control for season.
