Abstract:
A device and method for scanning an object on a working surface, the device comprising: a body located adjacent to the working surface; two or more cameras mounted on the body at a location elevated adjacently above the working surface for capturing images of the object on the working surface, the two or more cameras being angled such that their range of image captures overlap and the common overlapping region of the range of image captures of the two or more cameras corresponds with the size of the working surface, the two or more cameras being spaced apart such that each of the two or more cameras captures a different angle of the common overlapping region; and a processing unit capable of correcting skewed images of the working surface captured by the two or more cameras and capable of converting the images captured by the two or more cameras into a three dimensional image.
Abstract:
The present invention includes: a display/optical sensor section (300) that displays an image and captures an object image located in the vicinity of the display/optical sensor section (300); a browser processing section (11) that causes a window including a placement area to be displayed on the display/optical sensor section (300), the placement area being an area for placing an object; an API processing section (12) that converts first area information into second area information, the first area information indicating the location of the placement area in the window, the second area information indicating the location of the placement area in the display/optical sensor section (300); and a driver processing section (15) that derives a captured image, the captured image being an image of the object located in the vicinity of the display/optical sensor section (300) and captured through an area defined by the second area information.
Abstract:
This invention provides an image reading apparatus including a light source unit which has a plurality of light sources in the same direction as the main scanning direction of an original and irradiates the original to read the original, a reader which reads the original on the basis of irradiation by the light source section and outputs reading information, an original region identificator which identifies an original existing region where the original exists, and a lighting control unit which executes lighting control of the light sources corresponding to the original region identified by the original region identificator. An image reading method using the image reading apparatus is also provided.
Abstract:
An optical text scanning device compatible with a small handheld computer such as a personal digital assistant (PDA). The scanning device allows for a clear view of the text that is scanned simultaneous to the scanning process so that the operator can continuously align the device to the text. The scanned images of the text are converted in real-time to standard byte or word characters for subsequent display on the computer's viewing screen. The operator can quickly verify the accuracy of the conversion by comparing the displayed character with the actual character of text on the surface that is being scanned. Scanned text characters are stored in standard digital text files for ease of manipulation.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system for de-warping images of a developable surface, including developable curled surfaces, and in particular of images of curled documents (30). The system (1) includes a processor (25) linked to an image capture means (2) which: captures an image of the surface (30), said image having a warp corresponding to the non-planar surface; generates from the image a first set of points representing the three-dimensional profile of the non-planar surface relative (30) to a planar reference surface (12); fits to the first set of points a second set of points representative of a developable mesh; and uses the second set of points to texture-map the image (12) in order to de-warp the image.
Abstract:
An electronic device includes a projection unit and a detection unit. The projection unit is configured to project light in a projection region on a projection surface. The detection unit is disposed away from the projection unit. The detection unit includes a photodetector and a notification light emitter. The photodetector is configured to detect reflected light of the light from the projection unit within a detection region. The notification light emitter is configured to emit to the projection surface notification light for setting a position of the projection region within the detection region of the photodetector.
Abstract:
A document camera is described for capturing an electronic image of a document, for subsequent optical character recognition. In order to avoid the need for a user to look through a viewfinder of the camera, the camera comprises a projector for projecting an optical field of view indicator on to the document. The user can see the projected indicator on the document page, indicating the effective field of view of the camera. The camera may include auto-focus and zooming mechanisms. In one form, the camera processes a detected image to determine a capture zone corresponding to whole regions of the document falling entirely within the field of view. The projected indicator is controlled to indicate only the capture zone. When the image is to be captured, the camera zooms in to the capture zone to capture the image at maximum resolution.

Abstract:
A device for recording information has a sensor (8) for recording a primary image of the information, a display (25) for showing a secondary image which constitutes at least part of the primary image, and control means (20, 27), with the aid of which a user can define on which sub-image of the primary image an operation is to be performed. Methods of recording information are also disclosed.
