    Abstract: Incorporation of 30-65 percent of a hydrogenation metal component into a hydrogel which would yield on drying and calcining without the hydrogenation metals a xerogel of a high compacted bulk density (0.8-1.6 g/cc) low pore volume (0.15-0.45 cc/g.) alumina results in a catalyst having a very high hydrogenation and dentrification activity. Up to about 10 percent fluoride is added to provide a cracking component. The hydrogenation metal component is selected from the oxides of nickel, molybdenum, tungsten, cobalt and mixtures thereof.
