Abstract:
The present invention is directed to printed substrates having a metallic finish and methods for producing such printed substrates, preferably using an offset lithographic press. The method comprises coating a printing substrate with three coats of ink applied successively as follows: (1) a first coat comprising a solid color corresponding to the final color of the desired printing substrate; (2) a second coat comprising a moire pattern color; and (3) a third coat comprising water pearl.
Abstract:
Cookware with a multi-layer, non-stick coating on its cooking surface has a random spattered pattern of raised dots or globules in an inner coat, which is applied by spraying at least two applications, with the first having more coverage and a darker color than the second.
Abstract:
This invention discloses a decorative sheet having a hammer tone texture and the method used to obtain such hammer tone texture. A hammer tone composition is agitated, applied to a decorative sheet using a controlled means of delivery in a sufficient thickness, and then dried at a sufficient temperature and for a sufficient time to provide the hammer tone texture on the decorative sheet.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for producing two-layer paints of the base coat/clear coat type making use of non-aqueous transparent coating paints which contain: (A) a hydroxyl group-containing synthetic resin or a mixture of such resins, (B) an aminoplast resin or a mixture of such resins, and (C) a blocked polyisocyanate or a mixture of such substances, in which the component (C) contains isocyanate groups blocked by both a blocking agent (I) and a blocking agent (II) and in which blocking agent (I) is a dialkyl malonate, blocking agent (II) is a different one from (I) containing active methyl groups or is an oxime and the equivalent ratio between the isocyanate groups blocked with (I) and those blocked with (II) is between 1.0:1.0 and 90.:1.0.
Abstract:
A coating process and coating composition are disclosed wherein the coating is a silica sol and a polymerizable silane which have had their alkali metal cation content reduced to prevent blistering and loss of adhesion.
Abstract:
A method is provided for tinting a hydrogel contact lens whereby the tinting effect is not appreciably affected by the underlying color of the iris of the wearer's eyes. The method comprises the steps of providing a tube (12) with mask means (24, 26), orienting the tube open end upward, adding a fluid column to the interior of the tube (12), dropping the lens (L) into the fluid, permetting the lens to center and to rest on the mask (26), inserting a mandrel (66) to secure the lens, opaquing the unmasked portion of the lens, retaining the lens (L) in the tube (12) and tinting the opaqued portion of the lens (L).
Abstract:
@ A coating system is described imparting durable and aesthetically pleasing coatings to metal substrates such as automotive finishes. Pigment containing base coats are overcoated with transparent topcoats containing a low pigment to binder ratio of a pigment the same as, complementary to, or divergent from the pigment in the base coat. The resultant coated article has improved chromaticity, clarity and depth of color in addition to significant improvement in properties and aesthetic appearance over conventional coatings in this area. Optionally, a low pigment to binder ratio of the same pigments can be included in the primer layer to further improve durability of color and aesthetic appearance.
Abstract:
Multilayer coatings having at least one base coating containing pigments and at least one transparent top coating are applied from coating compositions on the substrates and cured together. The coating composition contains: (a) a film-forming synthetic resin; (b) an organic solvent in which the synthetic resin is soluble; and (c) polymer microparticles having polar and/or ionic groups on their surfaces and a diameter of about 0.01 to 5 microns obtained by emulsion polymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, these monomers having a portion comprising 2 or more double bonds per molecule and the microparticles are insoluble in the solution of (a) and (b). The base coat(s) have (d) pigments and the top coats are free of pigments.
