Abstract:
Apparatus transmits an identifier for association with a virtual area (46) by an administering network service, generates output data from human perceptible stimulus in a physical space (14), transmits the output data in connection with the virtual area (46), receives input data associated with the virtual area (46), and generates human perceptible stimulus in the physical space (14) from the input data. A persistent association is created between the apparatus and a virtual area (46). A respective presence is established in the virtual area (46) for a communicant operating a client network node (16) connected to the virtual area (46). A respective connection between each active pair of complementary sources and sinks of the client network node (16) and the apparatus are administered in association with the virtual area (46). A client network node (16) displays a graphical user interface, establishes the administered connections, and presents interaction controls associated with the object for interacting with communicants in the physical space (14).

Various embodiments of systems, methods, and computer programs are disclosed for managing participants in an online conference via a graphical user interface. One such method comprises: displaying a conference interface via a graphical user interface on a client device connected to a conferencing system via a communication network; displaying a contact list via the graphical user interface, the contact list comprising a plurality of draggable contact objects; selecting one of the draggable contact objects; moving the selected contact object to the conference interface; determining contact information corresponding to the selected contact object; and the conferencing system establishing a connection with a participant associated with the contact information.
Abstract:
Various embodiments of systems, methods, and computer programs are disclosed for profiling participants in a virtual conference. One embodiment is a method for profiling participants in a virtual conference. One such method comprises: a server establishing an audio conference between a first participant and a second participant via a communication network; the server presenting a conference user interface to a first computing device associated with the first participant and a second computing device associated with the second participant, the conference user interface displaying a first object identifying the first participant in association with a first audio indicator and a second object identifying the second participant in association with a second audio indicator; the server presenting, in the conference user interface, a participant profile control associated with the first participant for specifying one or more profile parameters associated with the first participant; the second participant, via the second computing device and during the audio conference: selecting the participant profile control associated with the first participant; and specifying the one or more or more profile parameters associated with the first participant; and the server storing the specified parameters from the second participant in association with a participant identifier associated with the first participant.
Abstract:
A system and method to assist an emergency medical dispatcher in responding to emergency calls. A computer implemented emergency dispatch protocol includes interrogatories for a dispatcher to ask a caller to generate an appropriate response. A diagnostic tool is provided to diagnosis as to whether a patient has likely suffered a stroke. The diagnostic tool determines whether the patient has likely suffered a stroke based on caller-relayed information about the patient. The diagnostic tool can be launched automatically by the emergency dispatch protocol, or manually by a dispatcher. The diagnostic tool presents a user interface that provides, among other things, instructions, questions, and input fields.
Abstract:
Access to a teleconferencing system is granted to a prospective attendee (1 ) for a predetermined duration, by validating the user for access to the facilities ( 107) for a predetermined duration, and allocating resources (1 10) to the user for the predetermined duration. This duration can be defined in terms of an expiry date, or a predetermined number of separate occasions for which access to the facilities is permitted, or a combination of both. To allow a user to break out of a conference and rejoin it, multiple accessions within a predetermined period (such as one day) may be counted as a single accession in counting towards the predetermined number of accessions. Different users may be validated for use of the same resources for different durations. This arrangement provides many of the existing capabilities of both booked and reservationless conferences in a single unified system. A reservationless conference facility can be emulated by specifying a very large permitted number of calls, or an expiry date in the distant future. To emulate a booked call, an individual attendee can be limited to just one accession, or to a very limited time range. Unlike a conventional booked call, the actual conference time can be rescheduled, provided it remains within the selected constraints. To encourage responsible use of the reservation facilities, allocation of resources may be prioritised for users having the most restricted duration of access. In particular, the guarantee of availability for a pre-booked call can be emulated by the prioritisation of calls for which the permitted users have the most restricted validity terms. This provides a form of demand-management, as the network can identify the number of passcodes valid at any one time and schedule resources accordingly.

Presentation of the advert is as a preview and should the user be interested they can request further information.
Abstract:
A method of controlling a graphical user interface (GUI) at a wireless device is disclosed and includes storing a set of audio GUI controls at an interactive voice response server and creating an audio GUI control string that is to be communicated to the wireless device within a voice stream. The audio GUI control string corresponds to a text string that is selectably presentable at the wireless device. Further, the method can include embedding the audio GUI control string within the voice stream. Additionally, the method can include transmitting the voice stream with the embedded audio GUI control string to the wireless device.
